PP XII Lineup - Your Breakdown

Vanden Plas: Love this band !!!.....So looking forward to this set....definitely a tie for number one band to see.

Evergrey: Despite some weak releases of late, still a band I would not miss live.

Creation's End: Do not have this disc yet (of which is on the purchase list). However, from what little I have heard, would like to see them.

Voyager: Umm, Yes....love the sound of this band.

Eldritch: Um, sorry....have tried Nino and Headquake(?)...just not working for me.....will likely try to give it the ol' perusal and see, but not expecting a long stay.

Mob Rules: A band I have never paid much attention to....not sure I will prior to the fest, but will stop in for the start and see if it grabs me.

Arcturus: Certainly not one I have much interest in listening to (just not my thing will driving down the road) but certainly one I want to check out live.

Sanctuary: Looking forward to this but am leery as to how well they can pull this set off....looking to be pleasantly surprised.

Haken: A band I should Like....but have yet to do any listening to. Certainly on the purchase list prior to the fest at some time.

While Heaven Wept: Saw them in Raleigh recently....ummm...YES!

Red Circuit: Know nothing about this one (aside from vocalist who I like)....though not sure I will know much about them prior to fest. Toss up as to what I'll be doing here.

Labyrinth: Got their EP many may years ago and loved it...never bought anything else having listened to a lot of their stuff on and off with none ever really grabbing me. Will be there at the outset and see what happens.

Dream Evil: Guilty Pleasure Band for me.....Yes....but they will have to be better than average for me to stay for the whole set...for no other reason than it's day 4 and........

Therion: One of my favorite bands of all time...there will have to be a good reason why I would miss this set....a damned good reason.

I saw them live in Chicago a few years back .. thought they were high quality.

Britt

The only Powerfest I went to, and for me, the best lineup at the top that they ever had, imo.... Morgana Lefay, Eldritch, & Nocturnal Rites just f'ing slayed......Oh, and I enjoyed Biomechanical a lot, too

Totally! I finally got around to listening to this a couple days ago and I was blown away. I honestly thought there was nothing that could contend with Overkill and Accept this year, but it may very well be my top disc of the year. I regret not picking it up sooner.

Those are probably my #1,2,& 3 releases for the year as well. There's just something that is cool & different about Haken that I like, and as I mentioned, they are musically very interesting to me. I'm sure it'll be a great set from them, and hopefully those on the fence will give them a listen.

Vanden Plas and Evergrey: Highlight of the entire festival to me. Won't miss a minute of it.
Creation End: not my taste but I'll keep on mind through a couple of songs.
Voyager: see Creation End
Eldritch: Shopping and drinking opportunity
Mob Rules: boring power metal. So dinner break
Arcturus: beyond bizzare. But could be fun for a drunken laugh.
Sanctuary: Don't like Nevermore or this prequel band. Will probably leave early
Haken: see Creation End
WHW: ditto
Red Circuit: promising if Chity stays sober and band has good sound.
Labyrinth: see Mob Rules
Dream Evil: ditto but even worse. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Therion: there was a time I liked a few albums by this band but a little goes a long way and it borders on comical. Will probably leave early.

Ok folks. I'm nipping the personal attacks in the bud now before they escalate. Ascension has his own personal definition of what "progressive" is and let's leave it at that. You can debate the band or genres all you want without insults.

And btw, Up & Away, don't you find it ironic that you can hurl insults at me on other forums and yet, I defend you here?

The irony is that the forum's biggest Dream Theater fan says Arcturus has bad vocals. I lol'd. So did baby Jesus. For the record, baby Jesus---big Arcturus fan. Not as much DT...he only likes "Pull Me Under" and few riffs from Scenes From a Memory.

Seems like you should only come to the Thursday show. Why even come to the main fest?

Good question. Suffice to say a promise made to a close friend, a long-time PP tradition and the great PP community. I will try to maintain an open mind and who knows, one or more of the bands (outside of Red Circuit which is looking very good) could be a big surprise. I think my views of this lineup are well documented in earlier forum posts. No need to rehash them again.

This is the best goddamn post ever. I have NEVER sigged anything anyone has ever said except for some random quote Glenn said a couple of years ago, but this is getting sigged.

If I can afford to be there for Wednesday/Thursday, I will be, and I will see everything. I will NOT miss that if I can see it.

As for Friday/Saturday? Meh. Love Labyrinth and really, really enjoy the Creation's End disc. Aside from that? Eh.

Yeah I don't get the bad vocals comment either. To each his own. But, even though I LOVE DT and definitely am a fan of James LaBrie's vocals, ICS is one of my personal favorite singers in metal. Dude whoops JLB's butt by far.

Vandenplas and Evergrey: Whole sets. Won't miss a minute
Creations End: Whole set. CD sounds good so far.
Voyager: Whole set, current CD is awesome.
Eldritch: Trying to get into these guys, whole set because of the next band.
Mob Rules: Whole set. Last CD was epic, other CDs are very good.
Arcturus: Probably missing, just can't get into them.
Sanctuary: If I make it back, whole set. I caught them back in the day, quality stuff.

Haken: Whole set. CD is awesome.
WHW: Not sure yet.
Red Circuit: Stuff sounds promissing, probably whole set.
Labyrinth: Probably whole set.
Dream Evil: If I stay for Labyrinth, I'll probably stay for DE.
Therion: Probably not staying for.

VP - You can have my floorspace for that
EG - Somehow - I've missed their appearances onstage. WOuld like to get that in order.

CE - You can have my floorspace for that
Voyager - maybe a song or two . .
Eldritch - same as Voyager
Mob Rules - same as Voy and Eld
Arcturus - RAILS.
Sanctuary - Rails for Mirror Black songs. Further back for Refuge Denied songs. (It's those harsh awful castrato yelps on RD I can't take)
__________________________
Haken - Watch from the seats
WHW - RAILS.
Red Circuit - Social time/dinner
Labyrinth - a song or 2 coming back from dinner
Dream Evil - Sofa time, watching the stage from the monitors.
Therion - RAILS.

lyrics don't define musical genre since they're.... lyrics.

Not entirely. I mean doom usually has very somber or "doomy" lyrics. Power metal typically but not always has fantasy based stuff. Death metal usually is about gruesome stuff, usually death. You get what I mean. I mean let's face it doom metal isn't going to be talking about teddy bears and candy canes. While I wouldn't define a band being a certain genre based on their lyrics, it does have a lot to do with it.

I'll be in my usual great viewing seated location for most of the fest - typically just to the left of the sound board so I can see over the heads of those on the floor... with one exception:

THERION: I'll be on the rail as front and centered as my tired ass can take it. I need to at least be close to Katarina for a few songs. Yes, this fan boy has a big crush on her. :saint:

and quite possibly for Sanctuary on Friday night. I may try to steal a rail spot for that one for at least some of the set. But I'll go back to my seat for the video announcement for 2012, which should include the long-awaited and long overdue appearances of Grave Digger and Rhapsody*. :worship: *nudges Glenn* heh heh.

*I refuse to call them by their forced surname.

Vanden Plas: Definitely watching the entire set. If they don't play Rainmaker, it will be as heart breaking as Nocturnal Rites not playing Fools Never Die
Evergrey: I've seen them 4 or 5 times already, i'll catch some if not most of their set, but probably won't watch the whole show

Creation's End: I liked their cd, but didn't love it. I'll watch a bit.
Voyager: Musically, I like them... don't like the Depeche Mode style of the singer though
Eldritch: I'm a fan, but can only take so much of them
Mob Rules: Saw them at BarFest and thought they were great, am a fan and will definitely watch
Arcturus: No, not at all.
Sanctuary: Honestly i've never really listened to them, still have some homework to do before I decide if i'm going to watch them or not.

Haken: See Sanctuary
While Heaven Wept: See Sanctuary
Red Circuit: If they don't grab me: dinnertime. CD's haven't grabbed me yet.
Labyrinth: Definitely will watch, don't know if i'll sit through the whole set though
Dream Evil: Saw them in LA 4-5 years ago, really enjoyed them. Like the band a lot, not a big fan of some of the serious cheese in their lyrics. They do sound great live though.
Therion: No, not into them at all.
