Pretty sure most guitar amp sims are just the preamp anyway. You need to added IR files so they can have the sound of a mic'd up cab with the power amp anyway

I was looking more at hardware preamps and i meant MIC preamps. that was my fault for leaving that info out...

so any mic pre amp plugins?

so you want to basically run a mic preamp plugin on something that has already been through a mic preamp. and a mic preamps purpose is to boost the level on something.

there are a ton of saturation plugins that can model that side of things, way too many to post. i like URS's one, theres also cranesong pheonix, mcdsp, massey tapehead, 112db make one and LOADS others.

i feel stupid now, i guess thats why i asked the question. Im looking for something to color the sound. is that what the saturation plug would do?

So does URS Saturation

I like the modeling in URS Console Strip Pro and McDSP Analog Channel.

In general, just look around at the various harmonic distortion/saturation plugs out there, because that's really what pres are mostly imparting to the signal that gives them their character.
