Best Written and Executed Album of 2005: Kamelot - "The Black Halo"

My Favorite Album of 2005: Morgana Lefay - "Grand Materia"

If I never heard of Kamelot before, The Black Halo would be my favorite album of 2005. However, I'm very familiar with their sound but wasn't at all familiar with anything by Morgana Lefay until I bought Grand Materia after Chicago Powerfest. The band has been around forever, but they were a HUGE suprise and discovery for me. While not as complex or vast as The Black Halo (Kamelot's best, IMO), Grand Materia is a power metal masterpiece which I have listened to more than any other album this year, so I guess that makes it my favorite for 2005.

Honorable mention favorites: Demons and Wizards, Stride.

Based on the number of responses to this thread, near the end of December, I will post the nominations and we will have a CLOSED BID VIA EMAIL to determine the winner!

Polls like this are cool, but somewhat disappointing when folks list mulitple albums when the thread starter asks for just ONE (i.e., "Offical Album of the Year" vs. "Official AlbumS of the Year". For an album to be voted this forum's, "Official Album of the Year", I think the best idea would to take the top 20 vote getters (albums) through December 31 and then post them in an online poll during early January in which forum members can choose only ONE band. In the final January poll, there would be a list of the twenty finalists with a vote button next to each album. The poll code wouldn't allow voters to vote for more than ONE album (and ideally only once for each IP address). If voters can't decide, imagine that, "stranded on a desert island for a year" scenario with only ONE disc on in your solar powered CD player. Which ONE disc would you want to be most "stuck" with?

Yeah, you can do all that with the UltimateMetal poll function. Well, not the IP thing, but if you make multiple accounts to up the votes for your favorite you're just a loser. I......think the max options is twenty.

I love seeing that a few people really like that Scar Symmetry disc. It's my #2 this year. I think it's the best I've ever heard from the melo death genre.
