ProgPower 2014 Wish List

I think the same thing could have been asked about Ihsahn as a solo artist a few years before I booked him.

And with the way ticket sales have trended over the past three years, all options would be on the table if it prevented the inevitable. Hell, half this forum doesn't even attend anymore despite participating in threads frequently and showing their support online otherwise.

Ihsahn told me that he loved the "unique thing you have built unlike anywhere else." However, their booking fee is really high. I mean *really* high. MDF & the Euro fests can afford that based on sheer volume of ticket sales. If I recall correctly, they charged at least $50/ticket for their NYC show last time. That kind of coin would take up over half my budget for a non-exclusive appearance.

I think it was $70+ actually... Still ridiculous.

True... although Emperor would represent the biggest departure you've taken, especially in the headliner slot.

So true. You have very little incentive to be continue to book a festival that accommodates the tastes of this forum. And if your own tastes have begun to shift towards some of the more aggressive stuff, why not book it? It certainly sells better.

Hours at ProgPower that would make my pals ask 'where's Jenn?':
Seventh Wonder
Circus Maximus - yeah again!!!
Vanden Plas
Kamelot
Diablo Swing Orchestra
Pathosray
DGM
Pagan's Mind
Jorn
Amaranthe
and just 'cause if any festival could get 'em it'd be Glen and I think they'd be a blast - Lordi... that's right, I said it...

Some bands I would definitely want to see invited around:

Images of Eden (not heard them? You will, this year and the next. I would do many crazy things to see them play live.)
All Too Human (almost the same membership as the above)
Hourglass
Cynthesis
Anthriel
Theocracy
Hemina
Soul Secret
Headspace
Eumeria

And if your own tastes have begun to shift towards some of the more aggressive stuff, why not book it? It certainly sells better.

Indeed.
Any extreme metal show here in Chicago at least sells better than any other sub genre of metal.

And that's not just the bigger stuff like Bolt Thrower or Carcass selling out shows, it's more underground stuff like Agalloch (well, not so much underground anymore I suppose) and Deceased even who draw big.

I think you have to go after the younger crowds who are traveling more for festivals (Such as MDF) and appeal to why they are traveling, To see more extreme bands they weren't around to see the first time (IE - Bolt Thrower, Coroner, etc)

Once again, this all only matters if going that far out of the box is on the table.

What about bands like Atheist or Confessor who have proggy elements but would appeal to the younger thrash / DM fans who simply go nuts for any 80s band they never have seen?

I'm listening to the new Trouble (The Distortion Field), which rocks big time. Anyone would like to see them at PP?

While I really like several of the picks, wouldn't that be a super packed Friday? ;)
You think?

Friday
Nightwish - they're in my line up not because I want to see them, but because the festival needs a name at the top. But other than them, I don't think there's another band whose ask would be super high
Orden Ogan - U.S. debut and with a good appearance they could be groomed to a future PP headliner, ala Sabaton
Sybreed - a band that has intriguing appeal to a wide range. Granted, the Aussie flights aren't cheap.
Manegarm (Wildcard) - would appeal to the Heathen/Pagan craze, puts on a killer show and wouldn't cost much.
Manimal - to date, they only have a single album, wouldn't cost much.
Aska - U.S., no visas, wouldn't cost much.

Same in NYC and Philly.

My buddy once joked, going to see Agalloch in Brooklyn is like going to see Elvis in Memphis.

It will interesting to see how far Glenn is willing to push it in 2014. So far when he's pushed boundaries it's worked, whether it was Into Eternity or Primordial, and now with Soilwork. I think the stage is set to go for something that is apologetically unProgPower.

We are VERY pleased to have the opportunity of presenting the 2014 roster to festival attendees by way of a video presentation in the main theater!

The video, created & edited by Wayne Joyner and directed by Glenn Harveston, will be shown immediately following Soilwork's set Friday, Sept. 6 (approx. 10:45pm) and will reveal each band on the main festival roster, the dates for PPUSA XV, and the theme for next year.

Don't miss it!

For those unable to attend, band annoucements will be made real-time via Twitter. Follow us @ProgPowerUSA
