Thanks Dave. I don't mind shots like this with the atmospheric lighting. All part of it. Each show and set is different which is a tremendous part of the challenge and continued development of the craft. On the blog, I end each post with some shooting notes for those interested.

Jen - Thanks for the kudos, you guys are the best.

I'll have to go read your blog. I would seriously like to upgrade my equipment and learn to take some awesome shots like that. As I mentioned, there is an art community just north of here in Lorton, VA that I know offer digital photography classes as well, that I am seriously considering taking.

I hope I did not mess up a shot that one time when I accidentally bumped into you while trying to exit the pit.

Good stuff.

"Shooting Notes: Shooting the opening set presented numerous lighting challenges. Most notably a backlit lighting treatment of about 4 stops greater than the minimal frontlighting. This was ...sustained through the set save a few brief moments. To expose such that faces were visible required an ISO of Hi 1 (12,800 in Nikon Terms). Drummer Darren Davis received the best lighting treament having the advantage of the backlighting reflecting from the floor and drum kit."

Thanks for all the kind words and compliments.

I agree 10000% with this. Both Esa and Allen have my utmost respect. I really try to steer clear of them while down in the pit.

Props appreciated, but you guys have it backwards; I guarantee that Glenn would say "photographers, do NOT disturb my sponsors!" We have the relatively empty pit for an entire set (minus first 2 songs which we shoot elsewhere); compared to the time and space constraints Allen puts up with on most of his shoots, this is luxurious. Sponsors, enjoy your bands and ignore the photographers. :)

They're the experts. They do this for a living.

You may not have meant that literally, but I wanted to point out that I'm merely a well-intentioned amateur. Todd (Fiddler) before me as a pro, and it took me one ProgPower alone to conclude that I need professional help (hello Allen.)
