Pronunciaton: Vox = Vocks or Vokes?

Just go to the website, watch any of the official videos - it's pretty clear that it is pronounced "Vocks", like socks.

Am I the only one who has never said this word out loud in my life? I've always said "vocals" but typed out "vox" on the DAW channel/file name.

+1, but I do say "vocks". The other one sounds god damn retarded.

I usually refers to vocals as "that shit I have to fix" most of the time.

Vokes ... as in Vo-kuhls
So it is about the "o" as I thought, and you say it with the longer softer one ay?

EDIT: I know where you're going with this .. we don't usually pronounce the "E" as a separate syllable, I know you guys do the additional little Hetfield "uh" for words that have what would normally be a silent "E"
sometimes you say it pretty clearly
"houses" /ˈhouziz/ for example
that's why I think it's a bit confusing to write "vokes" if you mean to change the "O" if you get my point.

So just the long "O" sound

you'd just be confusing the issue by trying to throw the "OU" in the (vouks). That could be pronounced the same as "moose" or "cow" or "good"
True that...the "ou" wasnt the best way for getting the point across. "gouls" is also a good example for what it can be confused I guess, but you got what I ment with the long "O" anyway...
cow doesn't belong there though?
If you want to write it with the long "o" then something like "vowks" like in "bowling" would be better than the "ou" thingy

ANYWAY
to set this straight, I was kinda surprised it is in there:

vox
Pronunciation:/vɒks/
noun
(especially in music journalism) vocals; voice:his matinee-idol vox

ɒ = the short o from "vocks".

Using the explanation of the latin "vox" isn't that smart too, since it's a dead language nobody knows how they used to say it. Latin pronounciation is different in every language too.

btw: 75% of the knowledge in phonetic/orthographic related posts of mine were implanted by my girlfriend. that phonetics bitch

I would say that I don't ever really say "vox" out loud or in normal conversation either but now like 5 others have said it and so it would just seem like I was trying to jump on that wagon

fuck it

I don't know if I've ever said it out loud to anyone. I'm pretty sure in the interest of carefully saying things in such a manner as to avoid misunderstanding (see what I did there Marco? ;) ) I have almost always said "vocals" ... however, in my lonely little world late at night, after the fapping is over and I settle in for some late night session tweaks, I'm sure I've said to myself "dem vokes needz moar delay"

so, for my part, if you're asking what the proper way of saying it is ... I don't give a fuck and you can stick that latin encyclopedia right up your ass ... I'mma sayin VOKES!

Team VOKES right here bitches!

yeah me too as I wrote in my first post, I say vocals 98% of times.
I began to think about it because I thought of what I hear in my head when I type "vox" into the DAW, and for me it's vocks, but also I'm not an english native so that appears more logical.

If it helps, bear in mind that "vox" is a synonym for "vocals", not an abbreviation. They're two separate words in the English language that have similar origins and usage but dissimilar pronunciation, like "pick" and "plectrum".

Depends,

- Vocks if I'm talking about Vox Amps
- Vokes if I'm using shorthand for vocals, cause it wouldn't make any bloody sense to pronounce it the other way if you're using it like this. They aren't called vaucals.

Totally this.

However I dont think I ever refrain from simply saying "vocals" out loud, sooooo...
