What bands can you site as earliest examples of "extreme" lyrics, particularly violent or gory or hateful or evil or even just vulgar lyrics that seemed ahead of their time & the standards of their genre?

Robert johnson - did some tracks about selling his soul to Satan - I know there is a tradition of this going back centuries, but maybe his was the first of the more "modern" sounding music to utilise the shtick.
