Putting on a desktop recorder while you mix?

Does anybody want to put a desktop/screen recorder program (don't know what the exact term is, just a program that records everything you see on your computer screen) running while mixing and then posting the video up here in the forums? I think that watching someone actually mix would be really helpful for others, and would make the viewer understand more of the actual process of that individuals mixing.

Here is my wishlist of whom (from this forum) I would LOVE to see do this:

-Splatt
-Bulb
-Machinated
-Moonlapse
-Andy and Mr. Murphy (of course)
-Behindert
-Dimi
-Metaltastic

but of course mixing videos from anybody would be appreciated.

And this wouldn't even be anything that complicated to do. Just download a free desktop recorder program (I'm sure there are some) and just put it on when you are mixing and when you are done extract the video. No need for editing unless you want to (although the videos will be quite long if you don't, but I sure as hell would download a clip of any size if I could see a pro do mixing), and you can only record some special techniques/tricks that you do in a mix that you would like to share to us. Thus, the clips wouldn't be that long (maybe?)

PS. does anybody know any good screen recording programs? I myself found this: http://www.nchsoftware.com/capture/index.html

the best way is to go and watch someone else mix first hand.. that way you can ask questions at the time.

But, I understand what you're saying!

This would be really cool, being able to see and hear the mix as it develops would be great, and maybe setting up a mic to record at the same time so whoevers mixing could talk us through what they're doing and why.

*NOTE* If people want to send me video files of said screen video and/or footage of recording I'd be more than happy to compile videos for everyone. PM for details.

HAhaha, I'm flattered that you mention me with the rest of those guys Rolve - I don't have the opportunities to mix full-band stuff NEARLY as much as I'd like, but I'd like to think I have a good handle on the process, and I'm gonna be mixing a song of my band soon, so I may be able to get something going!

it would be cool if the person talk in the video like..."i do this because"...

Great to know that so many of you are with me on this :headbang:

that would be awesome dude if it ain't much of a hassle :)

PS. and like greyskull already said, anybody know any good screen recorders for mac?

I like the Idea, but a mix ..at least the first song of a project, takes several hours....who wants to see 12 hours of that?
I mean...most of the time it's just random fader-moving, add and try a plugin, delete it again, ....and you'd need high-quality audio along with the video as well.

For Mac:

*NOTE* Lasse brought up a good point...a video is only as good as it's audio. Since we're all recording freaks here, getting good audio shouldn't (I use that term lightly) be hard. Putting the two together is different. If people want to add voiceovers for their movie, I can do that too. Hit me up with a PM and I'll start making videos if people wish.
