welldone, but theres more than one value for x. the other value is x=-1.
and that might have been homework for me when i was in forth year. now i'm in sixth studying advanced higher maths. that was standard grade (o-level stuff.) advanced higher is the equivalent of an a-level, and i'd be more likely to get a question like:
find the values of x for which x^2+2x+2=0.
the answers, in this case are much more complicated. x=2+i or x=2-i, where i=-1^1/2 (square root of negative 1)
now, most of you will probably know that -1 does not have a square root, because no a positive number mutliplied by a postive number gives a postive product, and a negative number multiplied by a negative number gives a positive product. this is much more interesting!
plus i get to do lovely integration of functions like (x^3+1)/(x^2-1)^3
