Why is Deliverance promoted as a "heavy" album? Sure, the first song is pretty heavy, but the rest has a lot of soft spots. A Fair Judgment and For Absent Friends are completely soft. So, help me out - did I miss something?

wwallinga said:C'mon... How is A Fair Judgment "Heavy". Maybe at the end, but there's no growling at all. Plus, there's a lot of soft singing in Deliverance and Master's Apprentices.
Damnation was promoted as being a soft album, and it is. Completely. So, again, I ask the question... We know Opeth are capable of creating songs with no soft parts (ie Wreath) - why is this album decidedly NOT heavy???
Land Of Grey And Pink said:If your entire definition of heavy = downtuned, chugging non-melodic riffs with growling , then yes...deliverance is not an entirely heavy and only heavy album for Opeth. But i think heavy can mean a lot of things: Dark, evil, thick and loud, mood, atmosphere, and vibe...etc. These are all things Deliverance delivers (no pun intended) very well in my opinion. If you want a childish text book "heavy" album, go listen to Evoken.![]()
yo mama has a lot of weightKoich said:Heavy means it weighs a lot, and neither damnation or deliverance hold much weight at all, in terms of them being good.
