Did a quick little shootout to see what difference it makes in a mix. One thing to consider is that the Mahogany guitar has an EMG81 and the Ash a 707.

See if you can tell which is which!

It's mahogany/81, then ash/707.

Shows it doesn't make a huge difference, although I much prefer the mahogany/81 when solo'd.

i can hardly beleive that someone can hear a difference, it sounds identical to me

The low-end sounds tighter in the second clip. In the first clip it isn't too bad either, just rounder.

I'd go for ash/707, then mahogany/81

Nope./ There's more low midrange in the first part of hte clip. The second is more open, and is clearer. Laptop speakers on a Dell Inspiron 1720. Not turned up very loud.

I like the sound of the Loomis more for this clip.

This also verifies a suspicion I had...

ESP is Mahogany with a ceramic pickup, Schecter is Ash with an Alnico pickup. The added mids and reduced low frequency bandwidth of Alnico makes Ash sound more like Mahogany, while the lower midrange and extended lows and highs of ceramic make Mahogany sound closer to Ash.

A difference remains, but due to the pickups and woods working to balance each other out, it's very subtle.
