Ok, I don't know crap about these amps, but I have a friend who chats with Olof Morck from Dragonland on yahoo messenger. Olof claims they record with Engl Savage 120s, but live they use the Randall V2 head. He said they do this because for a live setting you need the "extra punch".

I looked up the Randall V2 head and I have noticed that it has 2 pre-amps, one solid-state, and one tube. It is supposed to be 500 watts?

Now, can anyone give me any accurate description of these amps, about maybe how good or bad they are?

The amp head is $1200 new on musicians friend, and if it's good enough for Olof, it might be good enough for me since i'm all for a punchy, sick metal tone. But I'm still in the dark about these and the only youtube videos I can find are really short and not very informative, or some noob that doesn't deserve the amp in the first place.

If anyone can tell me if this amp is worth having or compares to the mighty Engl Savage 120, or any other nice amp like that, I'll :worship: you forever!

Amott uses them too.
Its just about the most badamp hybridamp thats out there.
Its impossible to compare it to something else, as it has a very own sound.

they definitely have a unique sound, they sound awesome live, but i could never get the tones i was looking for in the studio. but i would say they are much closer to engl's tightness and punch, but thats where it ends, its hard to compare most randall's as they have a different feel than most types of amps, where like the rm100 and similar modules have similar tube amp characteristics that you might expect from a hi gain tube amp.

ive been hearing that a lot here lately

so its all i could ask for in a sick live amp, but id need a mean amp for studio settings

sounds fair

anyone else have some input?

I heard a T2 (the simpler version) sound fantastic live at a show awhile back, but Kaomao on here has one and the clips he posted didn't impress me all that much (sorry dude! :erk:). For that price range, try to find a used Engl Blackmore, which apparently is very similar to the Savage, or a good ol' Peavey (I don't think of the Savage as a very saturated amp, so the 5150/6505 probably wouldn't be what you're going for; try the JSX) or Dual Recto.

ok, i might as well throw in my tastes

dont like mesas, good amps, but not for me

love the 5150/6505, i love that dry, sterile tone u get out some EMGs and one of those

i wasnt necessarily looking at that amp due to the price range, it just seemed too good to be true that Olof used them live instead of his Savage or any other Engl he could easily acquire

money isn't a bar here, its the tone. he said that the punch of the v2 surpasses the engl one, and that's what had my interest. the cheap price was just a bonus

and also, as beautiful sounding as the blackmore is, i dont like how each channel follows the same knob choices, so im not going for that one either

the V2 is one of my favorite amps... sounds dry, aggressive and HUGE. Seriously, it's got a great bottom-end response, BIG, but really really tight. Only thing I can compare it to would perhaps be to a 5150 in terms of gain structure and saturation, but that's about where the similarities end...

I haven't heard IMPRESSIVE clips of it, to be honest, but the few times I had gotten around to hear it in person, I've been amazed by it's hugeness!

You cant compare T2 to V2.
V2 has an entirely different preamp then the T2.
The T2 tends to sound überscooped, and with alot of harsh treble, while the V2 is more like 5150 on that side, it has crunchy mids and smooth, yet defined treble.

(V2)

this amp sounds like the winner in my quest for the perfect live metal amp

maybe i should get a 5150 for the studio as well

The V2 and T2 are completely different beasts. The V2 is based off the Randall V-Max, and the T2 is based off the Randall Titan. They may look the same and have the same basic principles as far as the pre and power sections go, but from then on they differ.

I played a T2 recently and it sounded VERY special. It came from way outta left field, I was not expecting it to actually sound as good as all the bumf on Randall's site claim it is, but it really did have a workable sound, which is miles better than any other Randall I've played. That was at a guitar show, so I really want some one-on-one time with that amp, with my guitars and cab. I have the feeling I'll buy the thing outright, without shopping around - which is something I never do. I'm waiting on a local guitar shop to get both the V2 and T2 heads in to try out A/B'd.
