rare prog from early 70s

since the beatles influenced many bands like these for years to come, and still are, it wouldn't be off topic for me to say that I'm going to watch the Yellow Submarine movie. If you're a Beatles fan, and haven't seen it, do so, it's really cool, and trippy like.

Yep it sure is. If you want another decent animated psychadelic/music driven movie, definitely check out a movie called "the point". Made in the late 60s, its a movie about a boy exiled from his town with his dog...and he goes on some odd adventures and learns some lessons, etc etc....the music is all done by Harry Nilsson...a great songwriter from the 60s and 70s, im sure most of you have heard a song or two by him before...check it out if you enjoy yellow submarine or psychadelic animation in general.

Hello!
I haven`t checked this whole thread so i apologise if this band is mentioned.

Haikara-Great finnish prog band from 70...reminds me little bit of Traffic.
Released two records which are very enjoyable.

I think there was plenty of good stuff going on in 70`s here in finland...those records are just hard to find. For example finnforest, blues section and elonkorjuu.
GODD STUFF!!!

i just read a short summary about it, and ringo starr is the narrarator haha, i will queue it on netflix, thanks joey. (the animation kinda looks really kiddy-ish, but..oh well)

Yea, technically it is a childrens movie (or at least targeted at younger audiences), but its still a trip, and has quality music...sp give it a shot if you have the means. But yes, it doesnt have a whole lot of depth or a thick plot or anything.

Anyone recommend a Novalis album to start on? I've heard Sommerabend and am quite convinced to buy that first, but I thought I'd ask around and see if any of you guys prefer any of their other material.

Also, besides 'Remember the Future', Nektar's albums 'Journey to the Centre of the Eye' and 'Recycled' are both excellent.

very good choices there. how i wish i could go back in time and discover those albums all over again.

abbey road...while not being considered "progressive rock" in many circles, i find it to be one of the most ambitious, creative and thus: progressive albums of all time still...fantastic material...very diverse, original and not contrived.

jethro tull...always a great symphonic/rock/folk band for those laid back music listening nights. i also suggest you get thick as a brick as soon as possible if you havent already.

and i think everyone knows my standpoint on that caravan album. ;) :)

everyone, please post your new album purchases here, and review or critique them, lets keep this thread going strong!

i just got a few albums recently myself.

Judee Sill - Self titled: A female forest folk rock album of great proportions. She seems to be heavy on the jesus side of things lyrically...but i dont really care much about lyrics as it is (im a die hard caravan fan)...but she comes off as like a low key karen carpenter crossed with nick drakish styled music. interesting stuff for laid back listening.

Jens - Standing In The Trees...: This is a wonderful progressive/psych release with a lot of folk elements in it...(im on a folk binge lately), very dark and moody though in places. Think kveldssanger era ulver, mixed with Opeth's damnation, and some spacey pink floyd elements to boot....and maybe a dash of country influence with some slide guitar and whatnot scattered about.

Enslaved - Isa: This is indeedmetal, but im an avid enslaved fan, and id say its another progressive and new step for the band and black/extreme metal in general. Bringing back some old elements from their eld and frost days, but still pushing the envelope with their multi multi layering of guitars, synths, harmonized and chanted vocals, etc. Their compositions remain unpredictable, melodic, unique and top of the line. A 2005 must have for anyone into black, progressive, extreme, melodic metal.

I know this doesn't really count but, 'And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead' have made some great albums that are quite proggy in their own ways. Their latest album is great aswell although more song based than their previous efforts.

I saw and you will know us................. on letterman, they were alright, suggest some stuff to check out and ill do so.

Ive been checking out some, godspeed you black emperor, quite good rather moody soundscape music.

GSYBE! are pretty cool although their music can be a bit dull at times. ...Trail of Dead their new album is pretty much rock music with added prog elements, but i suggest you buy Source Tags and Codes or download, the title track or 'monsoon'

Yeah i was surprised when you said they were prog the song i heard was pretty straight forward rock. Im going to bed soon ill download some, not that i will find it in a cd shop here anyway ha.
