rare prog from early 70s

I like the song, but its deffinately not the best way to check out yes so I wasnt really being serious.

Havent brought any prog albums lately the last albums i brought were Zuma by Neil Young and Katy Lied byt Steely Dan (fuck the cd version is better than my $1 vinyl copy), but when I do Ill post. I find it hard where i live to check some of this shit out. I cant find simple albums like Moonmadness ( although i do have it now) and In Absentia in the stores here (although i have that to). When I get the money im going to buy a list of shit (in the land of grey and pink, ballerman, hybris) or wait till I go on holiday. Sorry for the complaining but im doing the best I can haha.

ah, i didnt think so. its not a bad song necessarily, but certainly not fairly representative of what that band is about.

well, you dont have to post prog only album reviews here i dont think. this thread is fairly self contained and positive, that i dont think itll hurt anything...not to mention everyone who posts here like mulitple genres so i dont think it would bother anyone anyway.

or anyone who wants to discuss an album theyve already owned for a long time...feel free.

Comus...

I have heard one song and it sounds so strange, even 'evil'... I desperately need to get 'first utterance' but cant find it anywhere not even in my local prog rock shop. bidding on ebay...

That album is being released on amazon.com in April and you could get it from there, like me. Ive heard they are good to and want to check them out.

Well in that case I would like to add the suggestion for anyone who hasnt checked the out allready the band Air, in particular the album Moon Safari. Its truely beautiful music (think mellow prog bands, in a pop way), great for summer (which it is here). All I need is probably my favourite song because Im a romantic at heart.

Premiers Symptomes is also a great album, Le Soleil est pres de moi is a great song. thier newer stuff however lost a me a little (Playground love sounds like a dissused pink floyd song however - from the virgin suicides soundtrack)

PS. I just realised its March 1 here, and we all know what that means dont we kids?

I would like to know if some of you likes Apocalyptica, because I want to ask a question.
I already know that this has nothing to do with this thread, but it's the only place where all of you speak seriously about music.

I agree with NFU about Owner of a Lonely Heart not being the most representative of Yes, though I think it is the best song on 90125, which is the beginning of 80's pop Yes. In a word: Ugh.

I'd add Relayer to the list NFU gave.

(NFU would you mind sending along an Anglagard tune my way. I keep hearing about these guys but I know them in name only)

I just listened to Piste, but it was the only one to come through. That song is fantastic. I can hear now why people credit that band with kickstarting the prog revival in the 1990's. Many thanks NFU.

yes, it is indeed fantastic. ill try to send more...i had sent 2...i guess the 2nd one was still too big. :erk:

No, not too big, it just came through incomplete for some reason. There is no file size limit with the email addy you are sending too. Again, many thanks.

Say, have you heard of a band called UK? I really like their first record with Bill Bruford and Allan Holdsworth.

yes, UK is quite good. their first album is my favorite. not terribly talked about for such an all star lineup.

Well I brought Frances the Mute today and its pretty fucking good. Its one epic album and sounds like the band have been practicing alot. The drummer sounds like John Bonham , and the vocals are much more destinguishable than last album. The horns and orchestra are a really nice addition., and there seem to be alot more mellow bits.

I need to listen to it some more to fully digest it, but its definately worth buying.

PS. Post 666 Ill air guitar to that

haha yeah, I too bought Frances the Mute today. However, I had d/l'ed a shit quality rip of it like 1 month ago, so the cd sounds much much better. I also have realized I should buy most of my albums instead of d/l'ing and burning them, so I also picked up Deloused (though I have it burned from mp3s).

As I've said, the new one sounds sweet, but I enjoy Deloused more as of now.

that seems to be the consensus (sp?) right now on deloused vs. frances the mute. And i guess thats a reasonable response, seing as deloused is 300% more accessible and catchy than frances at first. I do think frances is a very neat work from an american band who is at such high popularity, and made the album at a point in which this album would probably make or break them...so my utmost respect goes to them musically and creativity as artists. On the other hand...im already looking forward to their 3rd album...because i think as a progressive rock band it will be interesting to see the direction they take on the 3rd release. As often thats the period when a progressive band has found its niche, or loses its direction and drive...or breaks the barriers, etc.

its also fun in a new way, considering i havent been able to follow a prog bands progress very often before, seeing as how most of them were during or even broken up 30 plus years ago. watching a good band evolve is something unique to a musical experience that we dont often get in this day and age...at least not often in a good way.

Fuck I was watching tv and this women who worked for a record company said she turned down matchbox twenty for her label cus she didnt like thier shoes, after hearing this i think we are very privaledged to hear an American band put out an album like frances the mute. Here's to a thier long career, and me never understanding the music industry.
