rare prog from early 70s

checked out paatos, and i like them very much. i also checked out white willow and i think that they are ok so far but i havent heard much yet.

das anyone (NFU most probably) heard the band riverside, and if so, can you give a (short) description of their music?

edit: same question goes for 'the tangent' btw...

Oh, thanks 9ft..

Saw Blackfield two weeks ago. Was a quite good show.

As for the Tangent, I haven't heard their new release, but the first one is basically like The Flower Kings, just a more jazzy version. A bit cheesy, and a bit too much of "forced happiness". I gave it a few spins, but after 4-5 listens most of it wasn't too interesting anymore.

I still like the "The Canterbury Sequence" part, though. IMO the strongest aspect of the album. If you're interested i could send you a few tracks to check out.

i have indeed heard riverside...2 tracks to be exact. some decent melodies here and there...but overall theyre another neo progressive rock band with reshashed stuff and not much making them stand out...modern guitars, fruity synths, but an "ok" vocalist, not tons of range, but a good soft spoken voice from what i heard....nothing i heard there was too great though.

I didn't know the album, except the title song. My girlfriend just sorta carried me to that gig after i told her about it. As for the length and the set, i'll ask her later.

It was quite interesting not to listen to a band on CD but to see them live first. I think i'll do that again if I get an opportunity.

edit: Oh i remember that they played "Feel so low" from PT's "Lightbulb sun", "Waiting" from Signify and a new song, "Epidemic" or something like that.

The touble with White Willow is that their vocalist can be terribly off key or plain bad. For example the track Amanesis from Sacrament. Nice instrumentation but even then the cons are too much for me.

the vocalist often has a strange atonal aproach. i personally have heard much more bizarre stuff, so it didnt really bother me to being with...but i can certainly understand why it would put some people off. the music itself though is typically top notch with that band regardless though...so its worth giving a shot either way in my eyes.

>> that was my impression too. i dont think it is atonal NFU, i think it's just non-tonal. i like atonal music alot. but i am not thru with them yet, i keep listening to them for a while until i decide wether i like them or not....

edit:

I listened to the riverside stuff and think it'S not above average. i ordered the Paatos CD, two camel cds and another pink floyd disk yesterday :) :hotjump:
