rare prog from early 70s

you're in for an experience. you either love VDGG or you hate them. personally, i love 'em :). the music is incredible and you won't hear anything like it from anyone else, that is almost guarenteed; the lyrics are very good, and sung with unmatched emotion by Peter Hammill.
which cds did you order?

The samples sold me....."Killer" is particularly awesome!

I ordered:
"H To He"
"The Least We Can Do Is Wave"
"God___" (i forget the full title)
and their 4th album...the one with only three tracks (again, I forget the title)

Do you know of any other bands that employ heavy use of sax, yet are dark and proggy (aside from some King Crimson)?

Godbluff
4th album = Pawn Hearts = my fav VDGG album
if you enjoy any of all of those, your next pick should be Still Life (hmmm, Opeth go sit in the corner, for time out), which was released after Godbluff.

Billy Joel?
nah, I can't think of anyone as of now, but NFU can probably help you out.
HOWEVER, a newer, darker type prog band that I cannot get over, is Areknames. Italian band drawing influence from VDGG, Crimson, and a few others. Long songs filled with keys, guitars, great vox. I would just suggest buying it, you won't be disappointed.

Meh. I'm not familiar with VDGG (sorry if that's shaming my family or something), but I bet you there are plenty of people in between the two extremes.

Well no shit sherlock - of course it was a generalisation. But with a voice as unique as Hamil's it is pretty hard to be merely indifferent. Especially on Pawn Hearts, both their best and least accessible ('all over the place' doesn't even begin to describe how schizophrenic this album is), which if you like, you will love, but if you dislike, you will wonder how on earth anyone could stand to listen to it.

^very good points deli. areknames recently released their second album ... anyone have it?

i mentioned this on opethforum but noone replied

i've heard some samples from Love Hate Round Trip (new album) but it hasn't been released yet. I emailed BlackWidowRecords to make sure, and he said in the summer at some point.

Well I'm gonna generalize here that generalizations suck. And it just bothers me when people say it.
