I shared this song a while back but I re'mix'ed it about a month ago and forgot to post it on here until just now haha

How is it? I recorded it in an unfinished basement with a TV blasting up stairs.

Also, I know the kick cant stay on tempo for shit. =]]

As for vokes, this guy said he couldnt "get into it" unless he held the mic and cupped like he does at shows.

after about 30 minutes of failure of him using a windguard with the proper way of recording vocals, i had him do whatever he wanted and i used a parametric eq to turn down the low mids about 25 db.

Clipping with the vocals?

I'm not sure because I'm listening on my shitty laptop speakers, but they feel like they're about to blow.

I couldn't really hear the drums either.. The guitars seemed WAY to loud.

but are the guitars really that loud? i thought the kick and snare dominated over them.

Well, like I said.. I'm listening on REALLY shitty speakers that might possibly be blown anyways.

So don't take what I said TOO seriously.
I will give it another listen when I get back to my desk on my monitors.

Then I'll be able to give you real feedback.

However, these speakers are hi-fi, and the guitars did seem a little overpowering.

I don't think the vocals are clipping at all... although I think they need a new singer haha.

It all seems pretty balanced though, except I would turn the snare up and the kick down slightly.

You should really do some editing to the drums - if possible - to get them on tempo since it kinda throws off the momentum of the whole song when there are snare and kick hits off-time.

man i knoww... i tried quantizing it but it honestly did not help at all and may have even been counter-effective.

but how was the tone/quality of the mix? (as in do you think i did a good job mixing) can you imagine listening to such a tone from your favorite bands?

take a second to judge the mix aside from songwriting and performance skills.

Did you try doing is manually?
I always edit my drum tracks manually so that i know it's 100% on time.

As for the tone/quality considering you recorded it in a basement etc, it's pretty good, although a 6/10 on my scale.
I like my guitars how I like my salsa, thick and chunky; I don't hear much of that IMO. I hear a ton of mids and some upper end fizz that doesn't tickle my pickle too nicely, not bad though.

At 2:50 the held note and the notes before that are pretty out of tune.

Not a bad job given the conditions.

I give it a 2/5. Wouldn't listen to it again even with a better mix.

^I think the problem is straight out, just the performance/song structure. The mix is really the only thing that makes it coherent in the least.
