Nick Cave isn't actually a mainstream artist

i think he would probably kill whoever says he's mainstream, since
he considers his music as Art more than music. and art, as we very well know, is not for everyone.

he wrote a few very good songs though, i must admit.

I suppose no one would say he's mainstream.

I do love his work, including litterature. He's very controversial as an artist and probably also intentionally misunderstood by many. The famous Murder Ballads album is a good example of that: when so many people loved it, others hated it and accused it to be sick and twisted work of an evil man who glorifies murderers. That's the way true artists are often seen, the majority don't even want to comprehend their work and their ideas.
