I just read in the SOS that its possible to reamp with sending your D.I ed signal into a (bypassed) pedal, which should bring it back to the wanted impedance, which you then send to an amp.
Is this correct? tried it with a pod yesterday, and allthough it needed different settings then when i played through it with my guitar it didn't sound far from bad either!
That's a nice tone there!!! Care to share what amp/cab, assuming 2 X SM57 ala fredman, Interface (or pre?), EQ, etc... I like details, and I need all the help and pointers I can get.
Let's see. Clip 1 was 5150 & clip 2 was a Dual Recto. The one Moon put to drums was a 5150. All were running into a Marshall 1960V with the re-badged V30's. Dual 57's then ran into a Vintech Dual 72 preamp based around the neve 1272 line amp. Lately, I've been preferring it for heavy rhythm guitars over my Great River MP2NV, which is about twice the price! So there ya go, it's not always the most expensive toy that gets you the sound.....
I've never really liked the Great River on account of the low-mid bump it adds. I personally like crunchy or 'cold' preamps for guitars... for instance the API 3124+. There was a studio down here which ran a ton of good gear and we did a preamp shootout once. The results were quite cool.
Actually, the Dual 72 is a little bit "darker" and "coloured" It seems to accentuate the mids and gently roll off the extreme highs or the "fizzies" in a heavy guitar sound... which is just perfect, IMHO. I still use the Great River for leads, though!
