Reaper PC/Mac immediate compatibility of projects

Just a quick question,

If i use a plugin in vst on my PC right now, and if this plugin exists in vst(mac)/rtas/au, will it transparently work if I open later the project on a mac which has this plugin installed on its own version ? or does it do a distinction between them ?

I have a huge problem on making my previous projects work well transfering them from my old WinXP PC to my new Win7 Laptop =O even having the same plugins!

I don't do it often but I haven't had problems yet. reaper doesn't work with rtas btw.

Should work fine.
You will run into trouble if you're trying to go from VST to AU, but presumably if you've got the AU of a given plugin installed then the VST is probably on their somewhere too.
