Hi fellow fans of Symphony X. Long time since i've been here.

Heres some bands i like:

Symphony X
TYR
Redemption
Liquid Tension Experiment
Fates Warning (old stuff and the latest stuff)
Riverside
Green Carnation
King Crimson
ELP
Van Der Graaf Generator
Camel
Sepultura (Chaos A.D era and forward)
Cavalera Conspiracy
SlipKnot
Bruce Dickinson
Blaze Bayley
James LaBrie
Rage
Blind Guardian
Nevermore
Helloween
Iron Savior

Know of anything i might like? I prefer bands that create good art over technical skill though they can go hand in hand of course. Im open for any style of music, just no death vox please :<

Prog:
Porcupine Tree
Marillion
Genesis (from about 1971 - 1974, basically just the Gabriel albums)
Rush
Queen

thrash metal:
Kreator
Sodom
Destruction
Testament
Coroner

There would be a few more I could recommend, but they all have death vocals.

Thanks.

They may have elements of death vocals, but it should not be the driving vocal style like in traditional death metal or brutal thrash.

Im familiar with the prog bands you mentioned, but not the thrash bands 'sept Testament and Coroner. Kreator, Sodom and Destruction...hmm. Maybe i'll give em a go.

Circus maximus
Andromida
Vanden Plas
Dream theater
Firewind
Seventh wonder
Darkwater
ARK
Threshold
Adagio

Shadow Gallery (start with 'Carved In Stone' album)
Clockhammer (If Fates Warning went slightly jazz-ish)
Psychotic Waltz
Yes ('71-'77)
Greenslade
Queensryche (first 4 albums)
Eucharist (Mirrorworlds has a King Crimson vibe, even though it's death metal)
Pagans Mind
Quiet Room
Rosicrucian (Yngwie meets Testament)
Evoken
Insomnium
Renaissance
Steve Hackett (first 4 albums)
PFM (70's Italian prog)
Tiles (big time Rush influenced)
Marillion (first 3 albums)
UK (ex King Crimson, Yes members)
Edge of Sanity (Crimson album, and then Purgatory Afterglow)
Novembre
Winds ( metal....great, memorable, guitar solos...has just the right amount of cello, and violin as well)

If you don't already know Evergrey...check out In Search of Truth and The Inner Circle in that order...tasty stuff!

Try Jag Panzer...Mechanized Warfare, Thane to the Throne, Age of Mastery...power metal with tinges of prog.

I'm a sucker for old Queensryche...pre-Empire.

Rainbow-Rising...a must have for any human being.

Meh, I saw Kius supporting CoB (yeah I know, but Moonsorrow were supporting too so I had to go to that gig) and they really didn't strike me as anything special.

Late Yes, Rush, Genesis and Marillion get no love. But they rule anyway. So does UK

I couldn't agree more on Yes and Rush. I only suggested early Yes because, in his list, he likes Crimson and Camel. I love old and new Yes, and Rush myself. I have everything both bands have ever done. The only post 70's Yes album I'm not fond of is their last one -Magnification. My top 2 Yes albums, funny enough, are Tales From Topographic Oceans, ('73) and Big Generator.('87) Trevor Rabin is so multitalented.
