Recommend me a movie....

The Constant Gardener - lovely, dramatic story, about medicin's tests in human beings. Ralph Fiennes is superb.

Saw that one, wasn't too bad but not something I would recommend

my recommendations:
Braveheart: my favorite film of all time, the ending is just amazing, I still almost cry when I watch it (seen it already 50 times or so)

Crash: another of my favorite movies. The cast and acting is just uber!

I recommend

the original gone in 60 seconds
and reign of fire...

I love cars and dragons.

And of course my little pony... Haha... Just kiddin..

Dude, a lot of these suggestions are just plain weird. Alexander and Reign of Fire? And dude, Crash? What a mediocre film... Kurosawa, though. That's cool stuff.

Anyway, quality films:

-In a genre full of dumbed-down films, LEON THE PROFESSIONAL is better than sex. Gary Oldman turns in an awesome, over-the-top performance, Jean Reno is perfect, and even Natalie Portman shines (have to get used to her a little bit, though). Nice directing throughout, only one bad shot, and it doesn't ruin anything. There's a lot of very cool, very subtle stuff to enjoy, and a lot of very cool, very not-subtle-at-all stuff to enjoy. Like, y'know, the action.

-If camera-work means anything to you, watch CHILDREN OF MEN. Totally took me by surprise when I went to go check it out. Five-star film for sure.

-THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY is possibly one of the best movies ever filmed. The peak of Sergio Leone's style (and it is a sexy style).

-THE PRINCESS BRIDE might by *the* best movie ever filmed. If you don't like it, you probably don't get it...

-THE THING and BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA by John Carpenter are both ridiculous and fun.

-Horror-wise, THE DESCENT is by the guy who did DOG SOLDIERS, and both are decent, unpretentious horror films (THE DESCENT is the better of the two). The first two ALIEN movies (by Scott and Cameron, respectively) are great sci fi/horror (the second one is more more sci fi/action, really).

-You wanna laugh, throw up, gasp, and hate yourself: OLD BOY. Sickly beautiful. I hear SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE does something similar, but I haven't seen it.

-As for war movies, the best of the best are APOCALYPSE NOW and BLACK HAWK DOWN. I imagine you've probably seen those by now, though, if you like the genre, as they aren't exactly obscure.

-Tarantino's best was PULP FICTION. RESERVOIR DOGS is probably worth a view, but it feels almost like a play. KILL BILL is sort of humorously fun.

-Movies that have come out recently... well, I'd rent THE DEPARTED and CASINO ROYALE. Skip PAN'S LABYRINTH (pretty visuals but no substance, incredibly overrated; the translation really played havoc with it). If you don't take it seriously, and if you're a guy, you'll enjoy 300, which is in theaters at the moment.

Ayup.

Some good war dramas

Saving Private Ryan
Braveheart
The Messenger - Mila Jovovich, story of Joan of Arc
Hero - Jet Li, Hong Kong swordplay movie

If you want to see a good political action movie, I would recommend The Bourne Identity/The Bourne Supremacy

You might also like American Psycho, christian bale is great in this movie, which is about a psychotic upper class businessman, very good movie

if you want to see a horror movie you should see Dog Soldiers, a werewolf movie, one of the best horror movies I have seen recently
I second Braveheart, also Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, Paths of Glory

Nothing wrong with Crash... the movie was excellent how the lives interwined and they didn't even know it.... makes you wonder about your own life and how it indirectly affects someone else's life without either one of you knowing it...

Haha 'Commando'. Funny stuff indeed. In fact, if that sort of thing appeals to you, be sure to check out the 'Rambo' movies (particularly the 2 sequels and the alleged forthcoming one, if it's uber death-count, constant explosion one-man-army stuff you're after).

I recently ordered 'Leon', which I've not seen in years, but is an amazing film. Highly recommended.

And tell me why you recommend it. I'm really into movies that deal with war and/or drama. I'm open to foreign films as well.

Band of Brothers.

Ten hours worth of war and drama. Very well made. Focuses on just one company from the Airborne in WWII from training to the Eagle's Nest, rather than just blowing shit up every 6 seconds.

I thought it was excellent.

They have Band of Brothers on the History Channel almost everyday now I think.... that channel is obsessed with WWII

I was obsessed with the Rambo movies when I was a kid in the 80's.... even bought a similar knife to the one he had... all my friends did lol When the movie(s) came out, knife manufacturers started to make those kind of knives and sold alot due to the movie... but anyways now that I look at the Rambo movies I ask myself what was I thinking lol they are kind of retarded.... the one thing I did like was the hot Vietnamese girl in Rambo 2 that he falls in love with and she dies... I have a thing for asian girls and she is very beautiful and unique... liked her eyes... ok im being mushy and nostalgic now lol

Really? (I mean about it being on that channel, I've never seen it)

I know about their WWII obsession. Been a bit annoying for years now. Billions of years of history and they seem to spend about half the day covering and re-covering a span of about six years of it :erk:

Ya Band of Brothers is on there.... I don't know the times/days... maybe on their website it says... but yes the WWII obsession on that channel is annoying... I want to know about other times in history other then WWII... how many times a day they have to put something on about Hitler's henchmen, The Nazi's and the Occult, or this or that lol .... whoever is in charge of that in that station has some Hitler fixation...

Very good movie. True romance was similar in many ways as far as over acting on Odlmans part. But it was wickedly brilliant..

-THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY is possibly one of the best movies ever filmed. The peak of Sergio Leone's style (and it is a sexy style).

Once upon a time in the west was much better. How the west was won is worth a serious look at. I'll also state this for the record. John Fords "The Searchers" starring John Wayne is a classic. The best work they did together by far.

-THE PRINCESS BRIDE might by *the* best movie ever filmed. If you don't like it, you probably don't get it...

The death match with a sicilian is brilliant...

-THE THING and BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA by John Carpenter are both ridiculous and fun.

Well said...

Again, agreed.

How about, Saving private ryan, Big red one. Drirty Dozen. They were expendable. Lots to mention. Too many to turn a blind eye to.

-Tarantino's best was PULP FICTION. RESERVOIR DOGS is probably worth a view, but it feels almost like a play. KILL BILL is sort of humorously fun.

I still don't like his shit no matter how bloody-funny or artistic he tries to be. Grindhouse was pure shit. Shit!!

Saw that one, wasn't too bad but not something I would recommend

Yeah, Braveheart has been my favourite film ever from the moment I first watched it back in '95. Everything about it is absolutely flawless...amazing battles and cinematography, splendid storytelling, wonderful acting and a SUPERB musical score (one of my all-time faves as well.) I mean, it's so well done you sometimes put yourself in Wallace's place and actually FEEL his rage during that one, emotional moment.....

And now, I MAY get flamed for this here but this is another one of my favourite films (which is ALSO from Mel Gibson.) The Passion of the Christ. In all honesty, it doesn't matter if you believe in the story or not...unquestionably the most moving piece of motion picture I have ever, EVER seen. In fact, the fact it is a religious movie didn't bug me one bit because of the overall artistic direction and presentation (to me, it was just a incredible movie). The story and the powerful musical score and FLAWLESS cinematography - spectacular. There is no greater pain for a mother than the pain of having to witness the most unimaginable pain brought upon your child...and not being able to do anything about it. This movie is one emotional rollercoaster to the next...there is hardly a moment to breathe easy.

Dead Poet's Society is also another film I should mention here. AMAZING performance from Robin Williams and absolutely love the theme to it. The ending is highly moving, but I don't want to give it away to anyone. But it's definitely about a teacher who the students highly respect and how his words and actions influence them and about a student who is unable to follow his dreams for his Father would never allow him to. If I say anything more, it would ruin the story but man I can't recommend it enough.

There are many, many more but I don't feel like writing an essay hahaha.

how about A FOREIGN war movie/drama.

"Come and See" a russian made movie about the nazi horrors in Belaruse...or one of those sketchy little nations.

Another good film that will be coming out here on the 22nd of May is Apocalypto. Get it. I don't normally like these kinds of movies, but it is epic, action packed and just fucking amazing. I saw it in theaters. The colors alone they use in the movie are jaw dropping. Mel Gibson did a number this time. :)

Mel is quite the talented director... I hope he directs more movies... he just needs to shut up and stop turning people off with his rants when he is drunk lol :loco:

As for foreign war movies... I don't know if it is foreign but i think the british filmed it:

Where Eagles Dare starring Clint Eastwood and Richard Burton... fucking great action packed movie with suspense set in WWII

Another movie set in wartime is Malena.... Monica Bellucci.... need I say more :worship:
