i saw a documetary like that with computer animated animals. it had tree squid, and the only mammal was a mouse being farmed by spiders. it might be the same thing ian was talking about.
for books, i will share my two cents,
anything by orson scott card, another vote for neil gaiman, and george r.r. martin, ursela k. le guin, and i like "a series of unfortunate events" by lemony snicket.

nah it's actually a collection of essays from various points of view. its a topic that has interested me for a variety of reasons, but mainly because it really stirs up meatheads of all persuasions.
