Recommend some doom bands...

I guess it depends how one defines "doom" - I would consider SunnO))) to be drone, cuz the similarities between them and Katatonia, Daylight Dies, etc. to me are pretty much nonexistant. Oh, and another band to check out is Amorphis, specifically "Tales from the Thousand Lakes"

i dont really even like doom, until I recorded this local 2 piece doom band....

It was pretty much a live recording, no bass guitar... Revalver 2 and a JCM2000....also used a splitter and ran the guitar into an Ampeg bass cab.

These guys are starting to do pretty good. They actually get radio play in a few states in the US, and in Germany. Got a few germany reviews, as well as Harder Beat and a few others.

True, although 006 mentioned he likes drone :p

Yeah, TFOES is unbelievable, righ up on top of my favourit doombands. And concidering it's a one-man-band, that's just crazy!!

Dude, I figured it would be you that posted up something I love, this band is awesome, thanks!

EDIT: Fucking Awesome. That is all.

+1 on The Wiz. Their Early stuff is the best IMO. Check Dopethrone and Come My Fanatics (my fave) first.

Buried At Sea - A heavier and more brutal version of Neurosis. I only have the Migration album which I really like alot.

Moss - Super slow with pretty fucked up production.

Monarch - Same sort of stuff but with a girl on vox.

Boris - Very diverse band. Have been through doom, drone, rock n roll, post rock etc. Their earliest stuff is the heaviest. The new stuff is boring shit. Go for Amplifier Worship and Absolutego. Those two are also fairly different from each other in approach tho.

*edit* Maybe the Drone/Evil 2xcd will be up your alley as well. Evil disc consists of riffing (tho I can't remember how purely doom it is) and Drone disc of pure drone hell. The cds are meant to be heard simultaneously.

Where are these guys from? Are they going to be playing with Daylight Dies and the others when they come through?

Oh, and cobhc... I'm a little concerned by that signature of yours. That does sound like something I'd say but I have no idea where it came from. I really should remember where something like that popped up but I really don't know - where's that from? I don't doubt that I said it (it seems like it would be hard for anyone to fake JBroll quotations) but that should ring a bell...

WINTER. 'nuff said.

"Winter was one of the single most influential doom/death metal bands of the early 90s, helping to pave the way for the likes of Morgion, diSEMBOWELMENT, hell, even early My Dying Bride and Anathema, not to mention the countless others. Winter could very well be, along with Paradise Lost, the first band to mesh slooooooow doom metal with death metal; it is highly recommended for fans of the aforementioned. A genre classic, no, fuck that, just a classic in general if there ever was one. Get this now. You need it."

i have their full length since it was released back in the early 90's and still love it.

Boris is indeed awesome!! Love the Akuma no uta intro :)

And a big -1 for Buried at sea being heavier and more brutal then neurosis, NOTHING gets more brutal and heavier then neurosis ;)

Thanks man, will check all of that out. I'm really looking for basically the slowest, most ambient/atmospheric and heaviest doom out there.
pretty good description for Winter as well.
