I've read one post in this entire thread where a couple non-doom bands were mixed with some stoner/doom bands. Other than that, I've agreed with everyone's recommendations. Pretty much everyone who has replied has some great doom suggestions. Yours tend to the doomdeath/funeral doom side, but it's still doom. What's your problem?

Any number of bands with doom influences are going to be hard to get into for some of the average metalheads out there (pussies!!!!!!!!).

Everyone should check out the band Esoteric and i'm not sure if Shape of Despair has been mentioned yet... Also check out Burning Witch (Wicked!) and Thorr's Hammer (I've heard very little by them but what i have heard was ACE!)
Another band to check out is Dusk ....but be aware for there are several Dusk's around .... the one i'm talking about is the same that released 'Mourning resurrect' and the mini cd 'Majestic Thou in Ruin' ....good shit!
Now if you're interested in more melodic doom like old Katatonia, early Anathema and MDB then check out Saturnus, Forest of Shadows , and Poema Arcanus

Also check out the band "Cryptal Darkness" ...they're from Australia just like you heh. They're (IMO) reeeeeeally good melodic doom metal. In face Martin Powell (former MDB, now in COF) used to play Violin for them.

This is a hrad one because to me Khanate, Burning Witch, abd Spaceboy aren't doom. They are crazy as hell bands. Southern Lord does indeed rule.

- early Cathedral - Endtyme \m/
- Slow Horse (melodic doom)
- Penance

To be overrated they'd have to be appreciated by a wider audience first. Which they aren't (hint hint). Besides, there is exactly ONE flute solo on their debut, the one in "Reaching Happiness, Touching Pain". I'm not counting "Picture of Beauty and Innocence" here, since it's only an intro. I can understand your opinion about Lee Dorrian though, he's surely not your average singer.

Sons of OTIS are freaking EXCELLENT. They're from Toronto aren't they ? Anyhow ...mighty fine list.
