recommendation: ashes against the fuckin grain

Well I think Ebay has made this kind of stuff a rather sensitive issue with some people. To a degree I can understand it. I mean, it sucks when some asshole buys 40 copies of a limited item only to sell it off slowly for outrageous prices on Ebay. Some guy in Germany was doing this with LJDLP vinyls a few years ago.

LJDLP stuff is damn expensive in the first place. The 1940-1944 Boxset set me back 60 Euro (plus shipping) from the man himself.

But yeah, as I was buying that, already there were resellers on eBay hocking it for 100 Euro plus shipping. I can only imagine that it may be even more expensive now.

The most extreme case though was what was seen in the eBay fiasco with the AAtG boxsets selling for $200 or higher only a week or two after they were initially released... It can get problematic, although what can we do? Some collectors clearly have too much money to burn, and the internet makes it all possible.

This thread just became gold. I still have my wooden box set BTW. Anyone want it? I've listened to AatG exactly one time. I'm thinking about giving it my one-year old to play with.

Dark One makes a good point here, Max.

Bitch about limited releases and then finance your tuition and recording expenses by selling off some of yours? I know this wasn't your intention when you bought these releases, but in the end, the demand you're complaining about helped you out quite a bit didn't it?

Look, fuck you guys. You might want to ask J. about the time I sold him over $1000 worth of my vinyls (about half of them limited releases, including two Agalloch vinyls, for the record) for less than $200, just because I thought they deserved a better home. Clearly I am about the cash money, clearly.

This is true. But it was for $205. But yes, those are worth far more than a measly $205.

Dude I seriously do not know what you're talking about.

Your harsh words regarding the limited Agalloch releases - "elitist", "retarded". I simply thought that bashing comment warranted a response based on how frequently you've peddled those exact same limited releases around these parts previously, particularly in light of the fact that the comment appeared to bother Haughm, that's all. When you appeared to be thin skinned about it, that's where the comment you're questioning came in to play.

It's cool man, let's just move on.

The only thing that “bothers” me is the monopoly of buying a bunch of copies for the sole purpose of ripping off collectors and making ridiculous profits. I also wasn’t trying to single out Max and I think selling his private collection for needed cash is perfectly fine. I have various rarities that I may sell to fund future Agalloch recordings as I am quite tired of my work being owned by a record label.

Max was also absolutely correct when he said that a limited release in a nice package will sell no matter what. My latest collecting obsession is Sturmpercht – another band who releases records in wood. Of course their music is incredible so it’s not just the packaging I want.

Nevertheless, I think I’ve said enough. This thread has become quite tired and I’ve spent WAY too much time on it with my three posts…

Haughm, stop pretending like you haven't spent alot of time in the "How Much You Bench?" thread

Haughm - feel free to stop by when we're actually applauding your musical efforts. You'll notice that approximately 93.24% of this board are fans of your work.

Yeah, as little as I care for AAtG, nearly everything before that is top-10-of-all-time stuff as far as I'm concerned.
