record-a-riff thread anyone?

Back about a year ago we had some pretty nice Opeth recording going on. Feel free to record something else though, I don't give a damn. I think that the rating other ppl's riff idea wouldn't work that well on this board.

*Waiting for Moonlapse to post a riff*

i'd like to do what we did on the metallica forum a few years back. basically everyone chips in on their own riff to form a song. people submit their own riffs and tab them out, and you assort things out and make a song out of it and one person who has a good recording setup records it, and someone can do the drum parts (maybe in reason or something) and the bass, vocals, etc. it took a while, but the song actually turned out decent

That's a good idea, I would definately chip in.

Create-a-song. One person throws in a riff, other person throws in another riff etc. they see what fits together. Some (un)lucky dude has the pleasure of recording it all, and then it comes out as a finished track.

sequencing is fun, but it would be a bitch to adjust the tempo to all the riffs

eh, i guess it wouldnt be too bad, depending on what i use, i dont know if you would have to adjust tempo to every riff if youre using something like fruity loops to sequence

Reason is the best for sequencing artificial drumbeats, as far as I know. Does it have a velocity bank, or the ability to provide random samples from the same velocity range?

I use Cubase SX to sequence, and load the samples into Battery to handle all my 'realism' parameters. Although I've heard Battery 2 is better.

I'd do an Opeth riff if I didn't have finals next week

but if we do a prolonged project like piecing together a song with original riffs, I'm down for that

Id contribute to a larger project as well. Sounds fun.

Don't use fruity loops to sequence anything. Ever.

I use Fruity Loops for my drum tracks. I think it's ok since my samples are pretty good, but I haven't tried anything else.

The create-a-song thing could be a cool idea... I'm willing to write a riff and see where someone else could take it.

if i was gonna post a riff, should i like, record it with my mic or through some weird recording equipment?
