What is a good alternative to a mesa rectifier for heavy guitars, besides a 5150?

I think Marshall Valvestes aren't too bad if you're on a tight budget. I've heard a few that weren't too bad as long as you spend time to dial them in. better than a S.S. amp IMO.

just don't ever use a S.S. Crate, EVER.

You could just get the Fame Overkill, that's the identical amp (not just a copy)...relabeled for musicstore germany....and it's cheaper..
