Response to all the Metallica bashing...

Well, I see that after Metallica releases a kick ass thrash song for the first time in 12 years, not to mention only playing earlier stuff during the live shows, people are still taking the same self-absorbed whiny I-want-it-my-way attitude from when Load came out. To all the people who think the new Metallica stuff is made-for-MTV nu-metal crappy piece of shit blablabla and continue to bash everything they do: just fucking admit it, Metallica's playing real metal again whether you like the music or not. God, I just don't get you people, Metallica comes out with a song that's fast, uses lots of double-bass, assloads of riffs both heavy and melodic, and you guys STILL bitch and moan as if it's still 1996. Why?QUOTE]

How long have you been a Metallica fan? I got into Metallica back in 1988! The first album I got was And Justice For All. I was impressed so I bought Ride THe Lightening, Master of Puppets and Kill Em All. That was real metal. Compare the song St. Anger to a song like Blackend. How can you say that St. Anger is a thrash song? Just because Lars hits the snare drum as fast as he can? The guitar parts suck. There is no crunching in the guitar strumming, there is no solos, there are no thrash growling vox. Now, Blackend is a thrash song, complete with blast beats, fast solos and guitar crunching strumming. Sorry Metallica is just playing to the nu metal trend. They should've broken up while they had the chance instead of embarassing themselves and dissapointing long time fans with this new album.

That was the lamest thing I have ever read....

"Metallica's playing real metal again whether you like the music or not."

You totally have to be joking. St. Anger is NOT impressive. Period. It certainly is not "real metal".

Just go away. I am so tired of these Metallifreaks posting thread after thread after thread about them. Go away.

Yes I'm new to the boards and I've finally found something worthwhile to comment on. I guess I would be considered a "true" fan of Metallica. Yes I was first introduced to them in 1991, I was only 11 at that time so I had not been exposed to them earlier. My first album though was RTL which was given to me by a friend. I was hooked. I've been a fan of their music for 12 years, I've stuck with them through the Loads (which I still enjoy) and through their various other antics in the early 2000's. I was crushed when Newsted left the band and thought that it looked pretty bleak when James went to rehab. But, as a true fan, I can honestly say, and I'll say this for everyone else who loves Metallica, St. Anger is a long time fucking coming. Yes, this album is not anything they wrote in the 80's, but seriously, anyone expecting that from a band needs wake up learn that to survive you either evolve or die. St. Anger is a huge improvement over both Loads and the Black Album. Is it their best album? No. Is it their best album in 12 years? Yes. Everyone wanted heavy, and when they get it, they complain about it. But the fans, like me, appreciate this album. Proof? Visit the intersandman.com messageboards where people who have actually listened to the album and don't have a huge chip on their shoulder because Lars took their Napster away (music was never ours to have for free to begin with, anyone who thinks that needs to work and see how it feels when someone starts stealing your paychecks.) Its also interesting that so many people are complaining about the production that was purposefully meant to sound this way. It does not sound bad at all. Sure it isn't over produced like their last few albums, but it stills sounds better than a lot of people are letting on. Yes, the snare sounds like "pang" instead of "snap" but who the hell said that it always has to go "snap" anyway? I thought that trying new things was something that was encourage in music but apparently that is not the case in metal anymore. What used to be a progressive genre of music is slowly becoming stale because fans are demanding their favourite bands never change the sound present on their first album.

I really do not know what is expected in the metal community anymore, I doubt the hip hop or country communities are this hostile towards eachother. What ever happened to respecting another persons opinion? Respect in metal constitutes saying that another person's tastes suck because they aren't the same as yours. Not only does that person's taste suck they are also "gay", "deaf", "stupid", "13 years old", "retarded" or any other insult you can think of.

So, you're saying that Metallica would have died had they kept releasing material of the quality of Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning, instead of getting Bob Cock to turn them into heavy blues rock? Metallica died with Burton.

What ever happened to respecting another persons opinion?

Opinions are over-rated. People need to realize that not everyone's opinion holds the same weight.
