Reverb on Kick

when i mixed that hammerfall tune that is hosted on the ftp i used some verb on the kick during the part where its just drums and bass. it was pretty fitting. usually i would say no but there are definitely times when verb can be used on the kick.

If you do this, it's very important to high-pass your reverb unit because your low-end can get muddy in a flash.

I don't commonly do it. If I want some ambiance on the kick mic, I'll get it off my drum room mics (I normally set up 3 of them). There's just something crap sounding about artificial kick ambiance. However, I was forced to do it very slightly recently on the Recalibrate the Solar Wind Generators track I mixed due to lack of any drum room mics.

I don't use any reverb on the kick...in quieter passages I just raise the roommic faders.
somethimes (in popsongs and lighter rock) I send the entire drumbus to a bit roomverb, but usually I just go with the roommics.

I always like to add just a touch of verb to my kicks to make them sit better in the mix. Just be sure to put a HPF on the reverb to keep the sound clean and defined

I haven't yet needed to.

Room mics / OH's really do most of the work for me, so the kick channel stays dry.
