I saw it (the original japanese one mind you) the other night and i was pretty disappointed. Some friends of mine had seen it and said it was really scary, not that i'm trying to be cool or macho but i can't say i got scared a single time while seeing it. It was kind of cool when she crawled out of the tv at the end but not really scary. Another thing that bothered me about the flick was that i found it a quite "cheap" way so to speak, to let the psychic powers of the journalists friend reveal what had happened those fourty years back. And it felt rather odd that some supernatural malignant spirit would seek revenge by a short VHS-movie. i say you either stick with the mystical forest setting or just go urban and modern, i don't like the mix at all.

so have any of you seen it? :)

Saw it, liked it and I was scared at some points. Fresh idea. Pretty good what comes to horror movies. I usually loathe horror movies because they tend to use way too many cliches and/or unnecessary gore (btw.honestly, who actually thinks Wes Craven is good writer/director? His films are bunch of repetitive crap...). I'm not saying that gore is bad, but it's not scary. Ringu wasn't cliched and it was scary at least sometimes, which made it pretty good. It had some dragging parts though, and the supernatural powers of the reporter were kind of weird solution. Haven't seen the American remake, but it can't be better anyway. Why the hell they even do remakes? :D

I have only seen our US remake of it, which was interesting though not nearly as suspenseful as I had hoped. The best thing about it was the direction/cinematography which I found to be pretty outstanding. Some shots were pretty brilliant just by themselves, story notwithstanding, so I don't know if I enjoyed just looking at it more or what.
