rolling movie thread

Should try to watch Burnt by the Sun sometime if you are interested in foreign film at all. It is based in Stalinist Russia and has some amazing visual imagery at times. The last 15 minutes in particular are both powerful and horrible.

I got a dvd of the "brand new adventures of wonder woman" from nicheflix and it's actually pretty darn entertaining. lynda carter is so ridiculously h0tt.

saw "the big tease" which was fairly entertaining. it was neat to pick out David Rasche as the villian hairdresser Stig since I also recently rented some Sledgehammer! dvds (not bad, but doesn't hold up 100%).

my grandpa used to love the wonder woman show. that and benny hill. guess he was kind of a perv now that i think about it.

Reanimator was so hilarious. and that new dvd version has pretty good sound/picture. didn't have time to go through the extras though.

saw the incredibles tonight. it was really good (a given -- pixar involved) but i had the displeasure of sitting in front of a jakovasaur-like hyper 8 year old who i tried really hard to ignore.

Wanted to see the incredibles yesterday and decided against it because of aforementionned 8 year olds and other of its type, and because it was its first week and it was going to be crowded as hell.

I went to see Ray instead, Jamie Foxx is pretty incredible and I am a music geek so I enjoyed it.

yeah to see the incredibles kid-free you probably gotta go to a late, late showing. I dunno if I'll make it to see it in the theatre, but I probably should.

rewatched Unbreakable this weekend. It's a good, well-made movie, but man oh man does that ending just fucking suck. I totally forgot how much of a let-down it is.

it sucks because the movie just totally stops and has a fucking post-script caption to wrap it up. it's not that what happens is bad, it's just the way it happens.

Holy shit Josh, I will never listen to your movie opinion ever again.

I loved the ending of Unbreakable, I think it fits perfectly the essence of the movie.

Bad Santa was funny.

ugh bad santa fucking SUCKED!!! It had some really funny parts but Billy Bob Thornton was AWFUL!!

what was good about unbreakable? the terrible acting? the boring story arc? the fact that it took twice as long to tell the stroy as it should have?

it was really thought-provoking, and let the viewer realise how the superhero films they'd seen up until then were utterly over-the-top, even the "standard" ones. not that that's bad, but we're incapable of appreciating a "regular" superhero movie normally, kind of like when a guy watched huge-boob porn for 20 years he stops appreciating regular boobs.

it was this amazing exercise in filmmaking and subtlety, and i think it succeeded!
