<Know it all J.> I have bought that album twice. Both times based on strong recommendations, and the second time was mostly because it was only $2.99, which is about $2.98 more than it's worth. Trust me, if you don't really like Rust In Peace, you ARE "getting" it.

Yeah, but that applies to you and your general taste in metal. Nothing surprising there whatsoever. BUT, even you should be surprised that considering Erik's tastes, him actually not liking RiP is just.....odd. But hey, I guess it happens. The difference being of course, at least you actually listened to the album.

Even more eeeirwds is that Erik is a guitarist. I mean, there at least should be some recognition of the genius of Mustaine/Friedman in "Rust in Peace". Throw Ellefson and Menza in the mix and you have absolute, unequivocal perfection - as is considered by most people into metal. It's not exactly a 'hidden gem', it is widely widely hailed as a significant accomplishment, just as "Reign in Blood", "Ride the Lightning", and "Bonded by Blood" are.

Dude I totally recording the bass intro to Poison Was the Cure (EDIT: no wait, I mean Five Magiks) for you a few nights ago and for the FIRST TIME EVER didn't use my headphones to monitor the sound, and my pickup battery was toast so it sounded like shit. I'll do it again tonight and start a thread so we can discuss Megadeth for the 24908o8iuou0 time.

Yeah, but that bass intro is a piece of cake. Try playing the verse riff and I'll be impressed. I used to be able (and still probably can) play everything on RiP -- must have spent hours and hours with it, BUT I cannot play "Poison was the Cure". It's probably one of my fave tracks from it, and the solo by Friedman is just blistering. Those ascending runs are mindblowing. For me though, it's the fish that got away. I remember putting away my KC-40V thinking "Poison was the Cure....I'll get you one day you pesky varmin!" in that old evil man from Scooby Doo accent.

Yeah Poison Was the Cure is fucking hard on bass and doesn't have all those crazy bluesy things going on like the guitar riffs. I learned the whole album many years ago but that fucker is a workout, I remember last time I tried playing along I couldn't even keep up with half of it. I know a good chunk of the guitar riffs as well but never even tried the solos.

Certainly not horrible, but classic? No way. That's pretty much my general opinion of Megadeth. They're very good at being average, mildly interesting, but instantly forgettable.

But hey, I'd take Megadeth over Slayer, who just plain sucks.
