Sabaton opening for Overkill in NYC

That's what the local bands are for! Hurray for pre-sale tix! XD

8 out of 10 times, local bands help people by providing them time to grab a bite to eat before the main bands. Not to mention that most people get tickets from the opener bands simply to avoid the ticketmaster fees, not necessarily because they wanna catch the openers.

I don't think local bands really contribute to the public outcome of a show. If anything, a show with too many openers is more likely to have lower attendance than otherwise.

what to come late to?

It's a shame you say that! Most of the people we bring stay throughout the show. I've seen other bands do the whole friends/family thing, but typically we sell tickets to people who actually want to see the bands we're playing with! I mean, hell.. there's not a lot of people who would drop $22 a ticket just to see a friend or cousin. XD

And besides.. all my family is in Europe!

This, too. We do provide a service! (besides being time killers. ;) )

I have to be honest. I have no clue what LAST.FM is, though I have certainly heard of it.

It's a website. You can type it in that bar at the top of your browser, and you'll be able to see it for yourself! :)

The chart data is collected from people listening to their own music via iTunes, iPod, etc., plus those listening to last.fm's "radio" stations. I have no idea what the ratio between the two groups is, but my feeling is that it's mostly people who listen to music they've purchased/stolen. Especially since the programming for the radio stations is built from the chart data; it wouldn't make sense to build the radio stations based heavily on radio station listening.

As long as you understand the source of the data and its shortcomings and limitations, I think it can be an extremely valuable data source. Some questions about the real world it can answer very well ("worldwide, do more 15-25 year olds listen to In Flames' 'Come Clarity' or 'The Jester Race'?"), while some are much more doubtful ("will there be more Accept fans at the Accept/Sabaton show in Ventura, CA than Sabaton fans?")

At the least, it can be an excellent check on people who make wild claims based solely on their gut instinct. It may not be the ultimate data source, but it's *a* data source, and I highly recommend using it to at least check your assumptions.

I'm so there on April 18 in Quebec City, and also maybe in Montreal on the 17th. Can't wait to see the metal legends live for the 1st time in my life.

Not too crazy about Sabaton, but they're still fine. I'll need to become more familiar with their stuff. It's the vocals that always bugged me a bit. At least, we don't get to endure Powerglove once again as the opening act...)

Oh, that's what you call it? Now I know the truth! :)

Seriously speaking - I wonder how many local bands would play at this show at Jaxx? (And I wonder if ASOT might be playing.... hint hint)

One can only hope!

They're listing an opening for 2 locals, but they also have the wrong date listed for the show, and only put up Overkill. If we get the show, I'll be sure to cum--, er, spam the news everywhere.

This is not a good idea.....this package definetly needs a stronger headliner. Each band has a fanbase but not one to fill some of those places. Too bad OVERKILL isnt on the rest of the dates. I still am excited but like it was stated many times on this thread.....they still need a bigger name to headline in the states.

Bob - Accept almost sold out that theater in St Charles about a month ago.
You always guarantee that any show in the city will do better than a show in the suburbs. Based on your logic, this show should have no troubles filling the Bottom Lounge.

Hope to make the Houston show!

I gotta ask....why Odessa TX?? :err:

It's not the wrong date. Overkill it playing Jaxx on their own. Accept and Sabaton are playing a different date.

My best guess is that it's because Overkill's fans tend to be the old thrashers while Sabaton has the younger crowd.

Yeah, definitely. Despite the fact that The Beatles and Radiohead are perennial chart-toppers at last.fm, I do believe the population skews younger than the world population, so bands with a younger fanbase may appear somewhat more popular than they are in the real world compared to bands with an older fanbase. However, when you're using the data to make predictions about concert attendance, I would say that the age bias is at least slightly mitigated, as the young Sabaton fans are more likely to make it out to a particular show than the old thrashers with three kids and a night-shift job.

In this case a much bigger source of error is the geographic skew. Those were worldwide listening numbers, and most of Sabaton's listeners still appear to be European, so the data is less valuable for predicting draw at US venues. Unfortunately I don't think there's an easy way to compare US-only data.

But they said that Overkill would be playing with them at Jaxx? Does this mean that Overkill will be playing once on the 13, then again on the 15? o_O

We need to get these two guys together:

More like KINGS X filled the place. I am sure Accept drew people but no where near the amount to fill The Bottom Lounge. I think you are banking that Accept are this huge band in the states. Kreator / Voivod / Evile / Nachmystsm didnt pack it. It was a very large crowd but not a sell out or near sell out. I think Kreator are a much drawing band than Accept in the states.

I am sure Neil has data to back that up somewhere.

More like KINGS X filled the place.

Accept didn't sell out in B-More, either. I was kind of shocked there was real floor space. I got pushed up to the front row with plenty of room to spare, and my guitarist caught Wolf's pick. Really surprising, because they were AMAAAAAAAAZZZZIIIIIIIIING.........

Definitely agree with this with the IL show. I don't know how how many city folk really went to that, so this will definitely bring in the city people. Plus, it's at Bottom Lounge. It'll do well.
