Saxon newb, need reccomendation plz

Hey, Saxon pwns... I was wondering if anyone could tell me the best "best of" compilation album. I looked at a couple but they seem to vary alot witht he tracks. So, I need the one that has all the greats and Id rather have a smaller one because it looks to me like that new 3 cd set is full of junk/live tracks .

The new 3 CD "best of" is pretty comprehensive and gives you a lot of bang for the buck music wise. In the US I've seen it listed for $22.00. That's a sweet deal. The only problem is that you would be missing some of Saxon's best work from the '90's on. I don't think that you can loose with this set to start though. You'll like the live tracks. After buying this I would look at buying CD's from "Unleash the Beast" and forward. It's a tough call when you’re talking about a band that has as long a history as Saxon. I really don't think that there is one compilation that would cover it all. And yes Saxon does "pwn"!

mate ill tell you what not to buy: 'a collection of metal' - it literally misses out every hit ( apart from 747, motorcyle, and denim and leather), the other 13 tracks are moslty mediocre filler.

i think the best one ive seen is the blue best of with the tacky front cover, its an actually well thought up tracklist.

Yeah agree 100%.

And thats the problem with the compilations, they are always alot of the early classics, not a bad thing of course, but so many of these things have lots of the same songs and not much newer stuff as pointed out by unleashedbeast above, there is so much 90's and onward stuff you really dont want to miss out on.

That new 3 cd has very strong tracklisting for every disc though!!

For what it was i thought 'Collection of Metal' had a decent tracklist better than some of the compilations, very nice live version of 'Broken Heroes' too!

Yeah it's got to be the new 3 cd best of. Seeing as there isn't a 90's onwards compilation, the new release is the best of what is out there in my opinion.

But if you didn't want to get that one, you could always try 'Heavy Metal Thunder', a re-working of the older songs that was released a few years ago.

Wow, I'm surprised I didn't think of that! Good call Paxoman! I love that album!

The only chink in the armor on that album for me is that I don't like the way Fritz Randow plays the ending of "Wheels of Steel". He totally misses the boat on that one. But now I'm nit picking, aren't I....
