Well damn I heard it would help it look thinner. Is there such thing as just thinning hair out without cutting it? If I asked them to thin it could they do that?

I dunno. Your best bet is to talk to a stylist from a nice salon. They'll know far more than I.
i just want it to look less ... oppressive. i hate having it fall in my face all the time and, since i don't really know how the hell to do anything with my own hair, i'll just get rid of a lot of it.

thinning means they use these scissors that only cut like 1/3 of the hairs or something, so it thins the overall body of your hair. its totally not metal.

Well, that's 3 for buzz. One said complete shaved head, but that requires regular maintenance. We'll see how short I cut it.
