it suddenly dawned on my that like 80% of my favourite bands have originated from Scandinavia, whether it be Sweden, Norway or Finland.

there must be something in the water up there or the likes, but what ever it is damn i love it.

what are everyone elses thoughts on the gr8 output of amazing bands from the region??

For me it's the same: almost all the bands I like are from Scandinavia. Why this??? Well, I think that Northern Europe metal have that something more (especially for certain kind of music, like black metal ) that bands coming from different region don't have, maybe it's due to the weather maybe not.... anyway these are the facts!

to me, they have more "clever" ideas and know how to present them and make them work in songs. not every scandinavian band is of my taste tho, but a really great part of my fave music is scandinavian

as far as I know its because in countries like Sweden music is really pushed and endorsed, lessons and such. Or maybe they are drugged in their water....who really knows? the shadow?

well, whatever it is theres obviously a massive appreciation of metal up there due to the amount of metal bands (of what ever variety) coming out of the place.

back here where i am there are very few good black metal bands due to the fact that theres fuck all support for them

the music industry in England is depressing!! i think i might move to sweden and become a Skyfire roadie

Final_Vision is right.. it's very easy for Swedish kids to take lessons for any instrument they want. Even the smallest town has it's own music school where the teachers often work for a minimum salary but are very engaged with the music and their students.

Some other facts that may be involved are that Sweden is a quite large country with a small population (only 9 million ppl). This means that young Swedes does not always have a lot to do in their spare time, living in small towns around the country and all, so they come up with the fabulous idea of starting a band...

Also.. Sweden has a great history of bands and artists who have made it internationally.... making the government realize that music industry is good for the national economy so they invest more money in music projects and stuff..

This may just be speculations, but it's the only things I can think of right now

oh, one more thing....once the rest of the world has found out that a certain country produces great music, they build up an even bigger desire for new stuff, which leads to more bands getting record contracts and stuff...

wow, i never would have guessed that the music was good because it helps the economy!!

next time my dad tells me to turn my music down i shall tell him that i am simply doing my part for the swedish economy

what ur saying makes alot of sense, but why is so much of the music coming out of scandinavia metal oriented, or is it simply a case of that i am blinded as to what else comes from there cause i only like metal oriented music??

I think you are a little blinded
Many of Britney Spears', Backstreet Boys' and a lot of other band's hits are written and recorded by Swedes
