setlist for new tour

Was Victorious March the closer? do you remember the set list?

It was the "closer" before the encore.

I don't remember the setlist too well but it went something like

Twilight Of The Thundergod
Runes To My Memory
Asator
North Sea Storm
Free Will Sacrifice

And then the only differences from the other setlists I saw where Victorious March in place of a song, and Valhall Awaits Me in place of a song.

Just got home from Vancouver. Spent the night in the car at the ferry terminal and haven't slept yet.

The show was incredible. Hands down the best concert I have been to by a long, long way. The Absence completely rocked the place. Their front man really knows how to work the crowd. The circle mosh they got going for their cover of Testament's In the Pit was something I've never seen an opening act whip up before. Ensiferum surprised me. I'm not really a big fan of their albums (I once described their sound as the bastard love child of Children of Bodom and Great Big Sea), but they really bring it live. A great show from them. The mighty Amon Amarth blew away all my expectations. The best live band I have ever seen. Those who've seen them know what I mean and those who haven't are in for something special. The only let down was Belphegor. Their sound was bad and their set was, well, dull. Definitely not my thing.

One of the better moments of the night came before the doors even opened. When Johan was on his way from the tour bus into the venue, he just held his hand up to his ear on his way by the line up and got a good cheer out of the lot of us. We got a mischievous grin and a nod out of him as he entered the door.

Now for all you set list junkies, I actually wrote it down as they began each song, so this one is completely accurate.

1. Twilight of the Thunder God
2. Runes to My Memory
3. Asator
4. North Sea Storm
5. Free Will Sacrifice
6. Valhall Awaits Me
7. Guardians of Asgaard
8. Where Silent Gods Stand Guard
9. Death in Fire
10. Where Is Your God
11. Victorious March
-----
12. Cry of the Blackbirds
13. Pursuit of Vikings

Anyone who wants to bitch about closing with Pursuit should have been there. Maybe not their best song, but an amazing closer. The crowd was so into it, it was definitely the right choice. The crowd wasn't into Victorious March anywhere near as much as it was Pursuit. The crowd participation was incredible. There's something immensely powerful about hundreds of people chanting an invocation to the One-Eyed God to end the night.

For others seeing them at Canadian shows, the shirts were $30, the hoodies $60, the tie and banner $20. I didn't catch the price on the toques.

And now I'm off to bed for a few hours sleep. I got some pictures from the show. Not sure how they turned out, but if any of them are decent, I'll post them later.

amazing thanks, i hope they keep VM,
and why are the shirts 30 :( well anyway, and theres only 1 hoodie right? (since you said hoodies, just making sure)

it may have had something to do with the requests from certain individuals :)

Excellent! Now you just need to get them to do Ride for Vengeance, Across the Rainbow Bridge, and either put Tattered Banners back on (or do Live for the Kill or Embrace) then i will be fine with them doin Pursuit as the closer for the night. Crowd reaction does not make a song the best closer IMO anytime when Pursuit is played durin the chorus the crowd reaction is immense. I've seen it as the 4th or 5th song of the night and it's pretty powerful but this is because the chorus is very poppy and cheesy. Very easy to sing along and EVERYONE knows it. Im not as much on the fence about it as Tomasz but i am close. I started listening to it again and it just pisses me off that it the place of their much better songs. Again i realize it had made their name here but i doubt if they took it off the setlist one day it would stop them from selling out shows here. No ones gonna be like "ZOMG they stopped playin Pursuit! Well im not goin now!" well some immature teeny bopper kids might but most would still go. Im still planning on goin to all 3 shows in my area. id be goin to 4 if i had the money and time to travel to Worcester.

PS to the band if they happen to read this:

PLEASE PLAY ACROSS THE RAINBOW BRIDGE!!! PLEASE!

I have to agree with you even though it's not one of my favorite songs from them. At the Anaheim show, everyone went fucking nuts for Pursuit. There were at least 15 people that jumped the railing for this song alone. They didn't have enough bodyguards to contain it. The mosh pit was so intense that the ground was shaking on the top floor. And my mom was headbanging to that song.

And the chants were epic. The entire venue was singing along except for my mom because she didn't know the words.

why cant death just send me freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
send me freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

fuck i love that song :( and they almost never play it live, its not on the dvd to

lol it's set me free Amon666 not send. Yeah i dont see why this was one they left off durin the Vs the World tours. I mean i can just see Johan sayin right before that big part in the beginning "I WANNA SEE YOU ALL HEADBANGING!! READY? COOOMMMEE ONN!!

I wish my mom shared my passion for Amon Amarth :Smug:

My mom isn't exactly a fan of them, but she knows good music when she hears it. She used to put headphones on her stomach and play Guns 'n' Roses, Rush, Boston, and Ozzy to me while I was in her womb.

Yeah my mom usually drops me of at the show and tells me to walk to the nearest church afterwards and ask for Gods forgiveness till she comes and picks me up again……. she kicks ass.

We'll have to agree to disagree here. I don't doubt that the reaction to Pursuit is huge no matter where it falls in the set list, but I prefer bands to close with their biggest audience reaction/participation song. It leaves the crowd hyped and wanting more as well as solidifying the bond between the band and audience just before they part ways. Personal preference, nothing more.

Amon666, yes just the one hoodie. Sucks that prices still end up that much higher in Canada despite there only being a few cents difference in the dollar these days. It's a 50% price increase on the shirts from the US shows when there is only a 5% difference in the value of the dollars.

If anyone wants an offensive t-shirt, ask the guy at the Absence's merch table about the older shirts they're selling off. They've got a cool logo on the front and "TOTAL FUCKING ANNIHILATION" across the back and they're less expensive than the current shirts. Unfortunately, I didn't catch his name, but he was a great guy to deal with. That goes for all the people selling merch.

You spent the night at the ferry terminal? You're from the island, I gather? Nanaimo here!

I have to say that while it was a great show, I (and several of the other people I talked to afterward) was disappointed with the setlist of this show. The set they played last December was significantly better, in my opinion; though I admire the fact that they played a radically different set, as opposed to just played the same old. It was a big downer for me that they didn't play Amon Amarth, as it's one of my favourites. Actually, at the Scrape Records signing last year, I asked them if they were going to be playing the track. I was told that there wasn't enough time, but maybe they'd play it next tour. So when I noticed on here that they were playing the track at some venues this tour, I got excited. Oh well.

The Absence were pretty great. I saw them last year supporting Cannibal Corpse. I noticed the crowd this year seemed to be more accepting of them, which is a good thing. I actually bought a pretty wicked Absence shirt at the Cannibal show, which reads "TOTAL FUCKING ANNIHILATION" on the back, with a split goat skull on the front.

Ensiferum were definitely a huge highlight of the show for me. Incidentally enough, me and a buddy were in the bar upstairs from the Croatian. Sitting at the table right across from us, eating dinner and drinking, were Ensiferum. I was wearing an Ensiferum shirt, and Petri looked over at me a few times. Eventually I gave him a nod, which he returned, and then resumed his conversation with the other members. It was cool. If I had seen them out and about somewhere, I probably would've talked to them, but I didn't feel right about bothering them during their meal.

Belphegor I generally felt were pretty "meh" as well. I like their music, but to me it seemed like they were just sort of "there" last night. They didn't put much energy into their show, and seemed like they weren't having a great time. It's no wonder no one moshed to their music, really.
