Short Cable <-> Long Cable - Shootout

Hey guys,

just a blind-test. Which file(s) sound better?

Please answer for DI and for distorted Sound.

I did the test using my ESP M-II and with two cables from the same product series.
Pickup was a passive Bill Lawrence l500xl .

First Cable was 30 cm short and the second one 6 m long.

I played each hit ten times and layered it for a more convincing result.

I'm really interested in the results.

Both first ones (201) sound clearer and crisper for me. They are way better.

I liked the first distortion one better. Clearer, less low end. Didn't listen to the DIs.

DI 2 and Distortion 1 were clear winners for me. I'd be very surprised if those aren't a set.

Pretty drastic differences by the way, but maybe that's because you layered it 10 times. By the way, was it just me, or was it just 1 hit and not a riff?

For what it's worth, that one hit was tight as fuck!

In terms of DI, the 2nd one sounded better. Not much of a distinguishable difference to my ears with the distortion (at least not considering what I am thinking is a placebo effect).

Theoretically there should be no difference in tone between the two cables, a more conclusive test would be to actually play something, especially jangly 6 note chords and heavy single note palm mutes.

so:
D.I. 1: short
D.I. 2: long

Distortion 1: long
Distortion 2: short

So what do you think? Everything just personal taste?

I liked the long more than the short. That suprised me. So i started this thread.

Only listened to the Distortion clips but Dist 2 deffo had a better high frequency extension. Short cables ftw!
