Imperanon:

They might have copied the Hatebreeder-era CoB sound, but isn't that exactly what we want CoB to do? Probably the best CD released in 2004.

Imperanon definitely is the badn to check out. Ordered their CD and I've been nothign but impressed. It's good listening to a CD and knowing tracks 1-6, 8-10 are good. out of 10. and 7 is good in its own rights, just the one i usually skip..

Kalmah boring? If we look at their latest respective releases : Swampsong > HCDR.

Moonlyght..yeah they're not bad. I saw them a couple of months ago in Montreal with Martyr, Liva, Kataklysm. T'was a good local show....

Kind of reminded me of Ensiferum and CoB a bit indeed... but more on the folk side. They have a full mp3 song on their website.

Haha ... I only heard them play some songs live and they were OK. Doesn't sound too good actually...the singer doesn't seem to sing in English very easily.

BTW, what are the most of those "similar bands" really worth checking out. I personnaly don't care if they're a carbon copy of CoB, if they can handle it well....NP with that. I know it's a matter of taste... but for example : I think Kalmah is a very talented band. I also think the album Menace & Prayer from ToC is one of the best made in the Speed mixed Death with Black Vocals (kinda) aka CoB's copy cat.

In the opposite situation, the wackiest I've heard was Blood Stain Child...sounded like a goa-trance version of Hatebreeder with sketchy leads.

kalmah doesn't suck. we all have the right to our own opinions but for anybody who listens to metal and thinks kalmah sucks (as in not talented) is a retard.
I like kalmah and bodom about the same, i love bodom because of the outstanding neo classical guitar work, i love kalmah because of the energy and killer thrash layout,

and both alexi and antti have killer fucking solos.

and yea - kalmah speaks in english and finnish (i've noticed alot of foriegn bands will growl in a different language and sing and english), and their lyrical themes are more based on swamps, death, and nature.

equilibrium are alright, but i'm not a huge fan of folk metal. (check out suidakra if you like equilibrium)

and Imperanon doesn't suck either, if your a fan of bodom and think imperanon sucks then your gay ;-)

Kind of harsh words there... You're titled to your opinion but if its different from mine your a gay retard...
And for the topic you've peaked my intrest and I have to check out Both Kalmah (heard one song i think) and Imperanon (only heard the name). And for a person who hasn't really heard these two I'd have to say they're doing something right if they've been able spark this kind of a discussion...
