SKYRIM!

I'm considering buying it on steam, it says 35 pounds so more or less 45 euros... I've never bought on steam, do you think it's worth it ? Do you confirm than once activated you can play without an internet connection ?

31 pounds so 36 euros. I think i'm gonna go for that

OK it's driving me nuts, I cannot get steam or greenmangaming accept my purchase. Im currently in the UK, could it be a reason why ? A mismatch between my french card and my actual current location ? A limitation in UK ?

EDIT : got it working by using paypal and giving my current UK adress.

Just brought it home and installing it right now. One thing to mention to you guys buying it on Steam, and for all the super nerds like me out there, the retail version comes with a cool map made out of nice rough textured paper, and its a bigger map than they've done for the other games.

Here's a pic of my character fresh out of the starting scenario, you guys post yours if you can!

One thing I've noticed is that I had to put my mouse sensitivity all the way up and it still feels sluggish. Other than that, smooth sailing. The menus are a bit odd to get used to but nothing too terribly far removed from Fallout 3 in regard to the layout.

Waiting for you guys to get somewhat through the game and confirm this to not be anywhere near as dismal as Oblivion or vanilla F3 before I take the plunge.

Hum, do you also have the mouse sensitivity problem ? It's all maxed, in W7 as well, I even tried to increase the .ini mouse sensitivity entry, nothing works too much, I still have to move the mouse a lot to turn in game. I cannot do a 180 turn without having to move the mouse up and replace it, it's uncomfortable ! It was laggy in the beginning too, I disabled mouse acceleration crappy stuff, it's better but still, there's something wrong with their mouse settings.

Ah Bethesda, still the same, there's always something wrong somewhere until it's patched (mostly by the modding community) !

Anyway i'm stoked that it runs very smooth otherwise. I'm gonna start my character now

Pre-ordered and it arrived today! I really like it so far.
The only thing I really dislike is the whole interface, it's kinda shitty to handle on PC IMO. I hope I'll get used to it after some hours of playing.
Graphics are ok. This game will rock so much! :Spin:

That's my Dumner I created as first char :

Sorry for the huge pic. Don't have time to make it smaller... NEED TO PLAY SKYRIM!
After posting the screenshot I noticed that he has a fucking small lower lip! :D

Edit: Oh year, hot new outfit!

The worst thing about the interface (for buying and selling stuff) is the fact that you can't easily compare items like the stats for armours and weapons without jumping into a different part of the menu, unlike in Fallout 3 where you had both your stuff and the trader's stuff easily highlight-able in one place.

Cool character btw. :) He must work out. He's like the Danny Trejo of elves.

Nord battlemage here, I thought i'd better stick to a balanced character to be able to finish the main quest instead of playing the thief too much :)

I've played it for 2/3 hours. I really like it, I like the new interface, at first I wasn't impressed but when I got that you should use the mouse less, and the WSAD / E just like a console controller instead, it's quite fast.
I really enjoy the game so far, I'm hooked ! Just one thing I didn't get : I got my first dragon shout, I tried to use it but it wouldn't respond, how does that work ?

Oh and I really love the evolution system, with sign constellations. It's pretty cool and I like progressing in it step by step. I'm only level 4 but I like seeing improvement step by step in an ability, and planning them by knowing what is after and in which path.

Music is great too, far better than Oblivion ones IMO (it didn't have many catchy ones except "Glory of Cirodiil" which is epic) I already heard a few good ones when I was walking.

Combats are fun, unfortunately with my apple mouse I cannot right clic and left clic independently (it's made of one block) so I cannot double cast a spell with it  no big deal. I'm just finding myself switching too many times between favourite items or spells, I which I could save 3 or 4 configurations (like 1 with sword/fire spell, 1 with spells only, 1 for bow, instead of changing right hand and left hand items constantly although just selecting a double hand item overrides the rest, and re-selecting a single hand item recalls the other one as well).

I wish I could have such a beard :

BTW i tried to make a character ugly and fat as fuck while being human but it's difficult in Skyrim most of them look too good !

Forgot to mention I love the imagery in this game. Everything seems well designed and smooth, very subtle. Like when you are asked to choose an answer during a chat, the way it is displayed is nice and blends well. Waiting a loading is not too annoying since there is always a nice CGI display with a little ambiance text. Also, the nordic culture is way cooler than oblivion's one IMO.

BTW i'm tweaking the .ini file a lot. You HAVE to change this to 1 :

bTreesReceiveShadows=1
bDrawLandShadows=1

it makes everything look better. The other usual tweaks are easy to find via google. I'll experiment with a few things later.

Been playing this quite a bit. I'm a wood elf archer, mostly playing the Dark Brotherhood questline atm. Just tried to take a screenshot and it crashed >.>

If I'm totally honest, it feels like a really really good Oblivion mod. This isn't really a bad thing though. The one thing I'm really pissed off by (maybe there's a way around this), is the journal. All the previous games, every quest update came with a journal entry "So and so told me to go to so and so and pick up this item." Now it's just "Pick up this item." No other information whatsoever. So either you use the quest markers and just play the game like a fucking GPS, or you remember everything every character says regarding every quest. Oblivion at least gave you the option to do things the 'old fashioned way' (like they were in Morrowind), but Skyrim holds your hand through everything and won't let go. I hope a mod fixes that but it seems like a LOT of work, and I'd imagine it would be riddled with errors and bad English if it were created.

Damn you're right, I was gonna disable the compass in the .ini files but it's true you have to remember more info. I wanted to be immersed more by stopping this GPS tracking guidance. A cool idea would be to have your own journal and write your own infos on paper as you advance. But at the same time, it's not too much of a problem since when you pick the item, you have a new entry telling you who you have to give it to, for example. But yeah, I had the GPS tracking, although I like the way you can handle your active quests or not, I find it less messy than in previous games. I miss the morrowing keyword systems though, it was genius and immersive.

I agree on the "it feels like a modded oblivion". To me it feels like they have pushed the game engine to its limits, it's well coded and works well on almost all computers. for now Oblivion with mods still looks better but in a few months you'll see the first HD textures mods and all that sort of things appear. I'm okay with that, the engine is good and I don't feel too many annoying limitations now.

Playing it like a boss on the lowest spec possible with the tiniest resolution imaginable.

Few notes:

-Menu system is dire; I didnt think they could make it worse from Oblivion but all the mouse keyboard combination is making me boke.
-The actual looking around mouse sensitivity is annoying
-Oh yeah, 800x600, yeah!

Here's my in game screenshot:
