Try online rendering (so it basicaly dumps to a file what the DAW is playing), it's the way I mix down stuff in reaper, the plugins don't even know it's rendering and not playing back.

how can I do that with cubase 5?

I just slapped the demo on a project I'm working on and I'm really, really happy with the results. Now, I'm not the one to say a crap mix can be saved in mastering, but I'm actually quite amazed of FG-X. Looks like I'm gonna have to postpone my 5150 purchase a bit more.

Slate, I think you're gonna have a quite bright future in the plugin market if you keep this up.

You didnt hear all that clipping and popping.....its most likely due to the mix and not FG-x

I heard it, but I attributed that to a) the mix and b) a little possible user error. You REALLY need to read the manual on this thing and do as Steven tells and in the order told to get the best results.

But clicks/pops aside, this thing is awesome. (Demoing now!)

The clicking and popping is not the fault of the mix (at least in my case). Other limiters are getting just as loud (or louder) and not having crackling. I read the manual. The clicking is eliminated by putting ITP on Smooth, but this makes the master less punchy than other limiters

Am I the only one that can't bounce the material? I've tried bouncing, and the wav or mp3 doesn't have any slate fg-x effects on it.

I tried bouncing the same track with the default compressor on Logic, and it was fine. I'm using Logic Pro 8 on a Mac by the way.

It's a limitation set on the plugin because it's a demo. When you go to render a file it just acts as if FG-X is disabled and renders without it.

There are ways around this though.

In Reaper, this is how I do it. I rendered a wav for the mix I wanted to test. Then, I made a new track, call that track "Master bus" or something. Ignore the real master track. So, you have two tracks in the project: "mix" with the wav on it and an empty "master bus." Now, put FG-X on the "mix" track. Then, create a send from that track to your "master bus" track... so, the effected signal is passing through it. Now, record arm your "master bus" track, and set it so that you're recording the stereo output. This is important... it will record what it's receiving. Before you record, make sure to turn your "master bus" track to Solo mode. If you don't do this, you'll hear the signal twice (because it'll be on two tracks). So, record it, and you'll have your mastered wav on that track.... Now, mute your "mix" track and render/bounce the project so you're exporting just your mastered track.

In Reaper, I made my own Master bus using the folders system. Then I just Render an mp3 straight to my dropbox. Worked fine

I can't get it to show up in Cubase Studio 4.5.2 on OSX10.5.8 hurrrrr. It's in the same folder as Trigger, should be working fine. Trigger was up and running right away, no issues. When I get home today I am going to try an see if re-scanning my VST folder will do it.

And I believe the function to bounce "online" in Cubase would be the export option called "real-time export."

After you have the license on your ilok, rescan the VST directory. When it scans the fg-x demo dll it will ask you to authorize it, and it might take a few min but it'll recognize the license on your ilok. It will show up after that.

For me, it only popped up asking to authorize the first time it scanned, and if you didn't have the license on your ilok it brought up bullshit about challenge/response. After getting the license on my ilok, I had to rescan to get it to pop back up again before I could authorize it. After that it showed up fine.

Yeah I'm gonna try that as soon as I get home, hopefully that does it. Anxious to try it out, seems a lot of people are pretty pleased with it. Sans the whole crackling/popping issue... I hope that doesn't hold true for me too.
