Slayer - South Of Heaven

That's creepy...I'm listening to that album now, and i go into this forum and what do i see? this thread! Weirdness! Anyway, great album, one of their best. Slower(think the slower songs off of Seasons, and you'll be in the right track. No worries, the thrashers aren't gone either, just not as "fast for fast's sake" like Reign In Blood) but still fucking THRASH METAL!!!!!!!!! And it also has two of my all time Slayer songs, too: "Behind The Crooked Cross" and "Mandatory Suicide"!

It could be legitimately argued that South of Heaven is Slayer's best album...personally, I think it's between Reign in Blood and South of Heaven...I absolutely love both albums, and neither of them EVER leave my CD player. I own 2 copies of each - 1 for the home stereo and 1 for the CD player in the car...

Great album. Easily one of their best and a very easy one to get into, unlike 'Reign In Blood' which took me a fair few listens to get into. It's brilliant but at first (if you're not used to the speed) it just sounds like a bunch of unorganised noise.

'Reign In Blood' 'South Of Heaven' 'Seasons In The Abyss' 3 amazing albums!!

Agreed. When I first heard SOH, I was in some guys dorm room (college) and he went out to pick up more weed. We had just smoked and then he left so I was in the room alone. He had just put on the cd and cranked it up. So I sat back in in the couch, closed my eyes and focused on the music. It blew my mind.....

If anyone downloads music, I recommend trying to get the "Silent Scream" cover by Children of Bodom. It's excellent.... Embryonic death, Embedded in your brain. Suffocation, strangulation, Death is fucking you insane :kickass:

I hate it, I thought they got really lazy, that was the start of their slow lazy stuff.

Why does slow mean lazy?? I don't think Slayer's slow songs are lazy, they have just as much thought, time and skill put into them as the fast ones..

But everyone has their own oppinion

I did,'t say slow means lazy, I said slayer got slow AND they also got lazy, other bands know how to do slow or groove or whatever, but slayer just sounds lazy, this isn't their laziest though, take a listen at diabolus and ghua, what about the latter part of seasons, he just moans ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh very lazily and it never ends.

I agree that everything after 'Seasons In The Abyss' got lazy. But from 'Hell Awaits' to 'Seasons In The Abyss' everything was brilliant

But like I said before, everyone has their own oppinion.

SOH marked the end of an era for me. This was the last great record they would put out for ten years.

Shoot u didnt like Seasons? :OMG: Anyways SOH kicked ass and I dont remember if it was this tour i saw them live (1990) with White Zombie/Biohazard or not but what I could remember of the show (i was mad drunk lol ) it also kicked ass... anyways there albums from Hell Awaits to Seasons were their best in my opinion... there debut was also good for it's time.. I have Diabolus but never got into it.. in fact it gives me a headache... :erk:

Diablous in Musica isgood at times....same with God Hates Us All....I sat Slayer was always good up until Divine Intervention.

I didn't say I don't like Seasons In The Abyss. I just don't think it's a great album. An EP would have served the purpose as well. Songs like Spirit In Black, Born Of Fire or Hallowed Point are only fillers in my opinion. The Slayer boys had run short on ideas and you could already smell the disaster coming that would become Divine Intervention. I'm with AntonCrowley_16 here: I think Diablous in Musica is good and I totally love God Hates Us All!

I love it. I think it's Araya's worst vocal performance though, he doesn't really sound his most evil on South of Heaven.

I don't care for Diabolus or GHUA too much, but it's not like Slayer sucks now or anything. Just aren't nearly what they used to be.

Divine Intervention was the first Slayer album I bought and I still think it kicks severe ass today. How can you say Slayer got lazy on this album with such killer tracks such as 213, Sex Murder Art, Serenity In Murder, Killing Fields, Divine Intervention and of course...Dittohead.

Diabolus is also kick ass - a real sick album and God Hates is one of the best albums Slayer have ever done.
