I'm not a Slipknot but it sucks when anyone passes away.Seems like people in the Metal business are dropping like flies. You can find it on MSN home page or Blabbermouth.

Someone pointed out something earlier, it has definitely hit in a 3 pattern like they say, but also, Peter Steele, Paul Gray, and Dio all were bass players... Paul of course playing for Slipknot, Peter of course with Type O, and then Dio played bass in some of his really old projects and such. Sure, it's just coincidence, but it's weird none the less.

That is very odd I must say.

Not a fan of Slipknot, but it's always sad when these musicians die. Unfortunately, I can't say I'm surprised as I've heard of his drug past. I know they haven't confirmed it's an od or anything, but I would be surprised if it wasn't.

Wow, this is sad.

Although I also have to say that if it turns out his death was caused because of a drug overdose or something, I can't say I'm surprised.

Still very unfortunate though. I like some of Slipknot's material. I hate that the metal community is getting hit like this though. 2010 really hasn't been a good year for us.

RIP.

... incoming posts about bands playing Slipknot songs as part of their setlist ...

By the time the festival comes around, we won't be listening to the bands we came to see.

I, for one, hope at least one band pays tribute to Dio with a song. I went and saw Hypocrisy and Scar Symmetry the night he died and they didn't even say anything. I was kinda shocked. Of course, they're on the road and may not have heard yet, but still. I hope it wasn't cause of lack of respect for a metal pioneer.

I doubt any respectful metal musician would do that for "lack of respect" for Dio. I almost guarantee that they didn't know about it, otherwise they'd certainly say something about it.

not every person has to pay tribute on stage every night. Maybe they did one night and that is all.

I'm trying to understand what your comment has to do with mine. All I said was that I didn't think Hypocrisy and Scar Symmetry chose not to do a tribute to Dio the night he died due to not respecting him. I think it was more of a "Shit, we didn't know about it" type of thing.

I think you totally misunderstood me.

Oh, man. That's just beyond upsetting. I don't care if their music was not "our stuff" or what, but I had the opportunity to photograph them last year in MSG and I took it. Had that "ugh, they suck" attitude, and felt chagrined after the show. They really put it out and I had major respect for them after seeing them perform. They really brought it to an amazing level and I felt stupid for having an attitude against them w/o ever having seen a performance. They killed.

I was in Ohio a couple days ago, and they're performance nearby was a huge deal. Now I feel incredibly sad this tour, and more importantly, this life was cut short. RIP dude. Let not a few, but many learn a lesson from your passing.

I've seen Slipknot live, and I still think they're pretty terrible. HOWEVER, I do think it's pretty aweful that musicians in metal seem to be dropping off lately. It's rather depressing. Paul has most certainly left behind grieving friends and family. And I believe his wife is pregnant, too? She's probably taking it the hardest right now. :(

Sorry, I might come off as a prick, but this death REALLY disturbs me.

This guy is a husband and a father to his unborn child, and he checks himself into a hotel ALONE for the weekend? Come on, why else would he (who is a drug abuser) check himself into a hotel if not for a "weekend bender"????

Well, the toxicology report will come out soon, so if it does turn out this was drug related (which at the age of 39 or whatever, is a MAJOR possibility) then it will be difficult for me to feel bad about this.

You are in a VERY successful band. You have a wife who is expecting your first child. Have some respect for yourself and your family. Don't give me that crap about "addiction" being something I can't understand. Everyone has demons and deal with crap daily. If he truly was addicted, then for the sake of his family he should have sought help.

As a human being, I certainly hope I am wrong about this.
Though why locally, would you leave your expectant wife alone for a weekend as you check yourself into a hotel? Maybe they were having marital problems and they were separated??? Initial reports indicate no foul play.

As I said, I seriously DO hope I am wrong. We'll see.
