SM57 vs. Audix I5 (samples)

Got a SM57 already, and just ordered an I5! Thanks for the samples!! I think they'll make a good combo.

anyone tried a 56 yet?

tried pgm56 the one inside the drumkit package by shure (pgdmk6)
And it's warmer than 57, really warm.
Yesterday I tried even a rode nt5 on my marshall cab, bah it sounds a little bit muddier than 57, not so bad.
I5 and 57 win! nothing can't beat them

Nice comparison clips to get the general flavors. I can really hear the 57's 180Hz bump, and of course, the mids. I dunno, the i5 has that spike right around 2k, maybe, that sounds pretty similar to a G12T-75's high end, if that makes sense. It's much smoother than that, but it still doesn't have that real organic quality that the 57 has. I honestly was reminded of a DI sound in a way. I suppose I'm just used to the 57 too much. Either way, I'd still take the i5 over the 609 from all the raw clips, mixes and live apps I've heard.

I'm intrigued with the above post on 57s for rhythm and i5 for leads. That's just genius -- brilliant, really.

Do have any experience comparing 57 and i5 on snare?

Well, I don't have samples of both to show you, but I tried them both for a session this weekend and I liked the I5 alot more. The 57 sounded beefy but did not have the same high end pop of the I5, which is what I wanted for this band.

Here's a sample recording with the I5 on snare, unmixed and with a shitty scratch guitar (using a V-Amp pro) that will be redone soon.
