I've got a Sennheiser e945 that I've had for a while now. I originally bought it for live use but that never really happened so I just used it for recording demos.

Now I've got some clients, and I want to know if an SM7b would make a big difference from the e945. The e945 is marketed as a live vocal mic, and it's super cardioid... but it's not a cheap mic at $220. Would an SM7b make things much better?

I just don't know. If anyone has had experience with both of these mics I would appreciate the input. Thanks.

Thanks. I know the sm57 is a little bit like the sm7, though not quite as nice, and I've always much preferred the e945 to the sm57 on vocals. I'll have to try it out or rent one to know my answer. Everything is subjective.

I saw somewhere a guy did a bunch of work on modding an sm57 to make it sound like an sm7B but I wouldn't go through the trouble, not to mention the almost zero resale value of a basement experiment
