I was just wondering if there was a shootout somewhere cause i couldnt find any?

I have the 808 and i love it and was wondering if it would be worth investing in the 820 but from all the threads here it seems like you guys think both will do the job.

Clips would solve my problem  are there any around here? (i know theyre used on almost everything but i mean clips that showcase both or som??)

Read this until you reach enlightenment....

Thanks man, that was actually one of the firsts posts i started reading when i got into this forum. A wealth of info around here! Unfortunatelly its not making my decision any easier without listening to clips :s
You may think you are enlightened from reading and logically understanding concepts in life but you have to EXPERIENCE them to find true enlightenment :yow:

sorry dude im being lame.

If only i knew someone around here who had the 820 i could compare it to my 808 and to my keeley ts9-dx-flexi something something!

Ive looked again dont think there are anywhere. Maybe ill just postpone that purchase and invest in something that might make more of a difference in my tone until i get the chance to hear one in person and perhaps GAS again ahaha!

(couldnt find a direct comparison on youtube either)

There should be a thread from like 2007 where i had a clip of the od808 vs the od820.

I ended up keeping the 820 and have been using it exclusively since.

I know that somewhere here Andy has said he liked the 820 above all of them. Personally, I like the Maxon 808 and the Ibanez TS9 and even the Boss Super Overdrive, depending on the amp. I haven't tried the 820 but I personally believe it's a matter of individual taste coupled with the tone you are trying to achieve at that time. For instance, I prefer the 808 in front of a warmer EL34 voicing like JCM's or a Triple XXX, but prefer the TS9 in front of the 5150 or Dual Rec. The Boss works nicely in front of the Madison head I used to own, as well as the 6505's IMO.

Yes i read that when i was researching but i think he was comparing the 820 to original ts9's etc but not to other maxons if i understood correctly. However i seem to recall plenty of people loving the 820 which is why i was wondering if it would be an improvement

I hear you man i guess you are right it would depend on the tone you are going after and the amp you are using. So far my main amps are the dual recto and 5150; here i use the 808. As well as the mark V, here i use the keeley but mainly for leads (which by the way means i should move my ass and start experimenting with it on the other two heads..)
But as far as the tone goes i dono man. I got some nice tones but i am still looking for it which will hopefully be clearer to me when i start recording our album. I mean you could get some nice tones but how will i know that this or that one suits our music, so i guess the experimenting is not over yet haha hence the idea to try out the 820.

Well ill definitely check out the clips from Wolfe!

Thanks for the info Tommy!

It brings out things like pick attack and player nuances a bit better. Cool for good players but it can make a player with bad technique sound worse.

I also liked the clean blend on the 820. Gives a bit more options for boosting. With the Drive all the way down you are able to achieve a true 'clean' boost. Turn up the drive, and it blends in the distorted signal from the chip.

Is it worth the extra money? Eh, that's debatable. But it works for me so I'll stick with it.

wow i didnt know about these! will check them out (ill download them so i can watch them without interruption as the connection is so dam slow around here..)

Thanks a lot!

 hh hmm. So just now ive been doing more search on the forum about clips and in one thread a dude asks the same questions..

seems i asked the same questions on a thread a while ago. Cant beleive i totally forgot about that.. The guys told me to ask Jeff about the clips because the link is broken with the actual shootout.

Anyway really sorry about that! still i got some great info i didnt know about.

Thanks again :worship:

I have an OD808 and a custom made 808 style, the custom made sounds much more better.
All opinions I´ve read in forums end up with the 820 as a clear winner, with more options to tweak your sound.
Looking for one right now....
