Shawn Lane died of a Lung Infection due to heavy tobacco use and obesity as far as I know. I never heard anything about him being a big time druggie..but then again it might explain why he died poor with no health insurance or anything...

Well, there were lots of reasons why he died in poverty...his manager stealing all of his money being the main reason.

My point in my earlier post was that there are plenty of great musicans and artists that took drugs. Just about every jazz musician I've ever met was a pothead. Hell, look at Miles Davis. Vai was coked up when he was going to Berklee, I could go on. Now I'm not condoning drug use, and I think anything harder than pot is bad news, but at the same time I'm not going to discredit a musician simply because he used drugs.

And while metal may not be a "pot heavy" genre or whatever, lets not forget the main metalhead vice - ALCOHOL - is shown to be more destructive than pot can be. No one seems to have a problem with that though :p

Smoked some pot then sat down in front of their speakers and just listened to the The divine wings of tradgedy or The Odyssey right through? (the songs, not albums)

I was blown away the first time I did that!:Smokin: :headbang:

I was gonna do that, in fact, I would've gotten half way there had my friends called me to come over when they had a pound of weed and played Halo.

As soon as I saw the first post, I knew a war was gonna start here. I don't smoke weed, but is it really a big deal? Almost all my buddies do, and I've never seen anyone get hurt from sitting around and smoking a little once in a while. Anything can be really detrimental if you make it a habit. Chill the fuck out.

Anyway, I bet TTLG Live would be amazing when you're fucked up.

I've always preferred to do this with Floyd music, as cliche as that may be. Although, I may have to give it a shot sometime with some SymX; I could definitely see something epic like The Odyssey being quite nice.

anythings amazing when your fucked up....

You ever see the back of a twenty dollar bill... on weed? Oh, there's some crazy shit, man. There's a dude in the bushes. Has he got a gun? I dunno! RED TEAM GO, RED TEAM GO.

Floyd when you're stoned may be cliche, but there's a reason for that. The second time I actually got high (and oh how high I was), they were playing a ton of stuff from The Wall on the radio. What an experience.

There are two kind of drug users, those who are addicted and those who arent. you really think smoking occasionally is gonna have any effect on your life whatsoever? its when you make it a habit and cant go a day without doing it that the problems come in.

I never do drugs anymore, but i while back i got into acid, that is fucking trippy shit there...

im glad i quit though, i mean after i stopped, my guitar playing almost instanly improved, my mind seems clearer, I just felt great.

I still drink a bit of alcohol, bit i really have been cutting back on that since i got drunk one night and boned some ghetto mamma...

well, if you really think about it, almost everyone is a addicted drug user, let it be Caffine, niccotine or crack and heroin, we are a nation of substance abuse..

This is exactly right....a lot of the greatest music ever created was drug fueled.

I spent many years getting fucked up (on anything and everything) and listening to music (mainly metal, prog, jazz and fusion).....thats pretty much all me and my friends did
Different story now though.

Drugs = So Far, So Good.... So What?!
No Drugs = RISK.

A translation for the non Megadeth Fans out there, Drugs are essential in creating Speed Metal.

I can't say that I've done that, but I've had some GREAT experiences with pot and metal before. Nile's newest album, when you're high, is absolutely AMAZING. And to the guy who said pot slows down your fingers: You're wrong.

Nevermind hearing The Wall, try dropping some 'cid and watching it...o_O

I was too scared to watch the movie; thought it might freak me out. I did, however, listen to Shine on you Crazy Diamond while tripping one time. I was playing it on an Xbox, and I could SEE the music coming out of the visualizations on the TV...that's not even mentioning the fact that the spacey intro lasted for about 35 hours.
