How does it compare to the great Mabool? Still heavy? Still lots of growls? What exactly is Steven Wilson's involvement in the album? Did he produce? Mix? Sing? Play?

Thoughts?

It's got it's moments, but some of the appeal has just worn off for me. This disc seems overly long with tons of filler. If I am going to reach for an OL disc it's going to be Mabool. As much as I like Mabool it wasn't the easiest listen in the world ... I have found this new one to be much tougher. They should have named this disc SNORwarriOR.

It's DEEP, and requires a lot of listens to really appreciate. Heavy moments, light moments, plenty of folky moments..... It's not as immediate as "Mabool", but may be more brilliant in its depth.

This is another band that I tried my hardest to get into, but just never could. Mabool is just okay for me. I know a statement like that is blasphemy around here though. (ducks to avoid getting hit) :zombie:

I thought Mabool was decent, but dragged on a bit in places... I think this one works much better as a whole. It definitely needs multiple listens to grow, though.

You need to hear the album multiple times for you to get it, really. Like some people said here, it's a massive, very deep listen. This is the most mature album Orphaned Land has put out in their career. If you thought Mabool was big (and it really was), this is really going to overwhelm you.

I am in love with this album. Contrary to what Britt said, there's absolutely no filler at all in it. Production is unbelievable (Steven Wilson is a genius, and to those who had the balls to say he made Orphaned Land sound like a Steven Wilson record, go fuck a goat!!), there's plenty of heavy parts, lots of folky/traditional sections... It's quite an album. The concept is very well developed, the message is strong and honest. Great, great, great release.

I wouldn't be surprised if this ends the year on top of many "Best of 2010" lists.

I haven't given up on this one yet, but each time I listen to it I want to quit about halfway thru. I thought they might abandon the growly vox, but they didn't ... and I think Kobi's vox have actually improved since Mabool. I guess overall the material isn't as engaging to me, but as I mentioned earlier that could be more of my personal preferences at this point in time than any real failings of the band. Talented band .. good production .. just doesn't seem to be something I am too interested in spending a lot of time with right now.

I liked it upon first listen. They are not the easiest band to get into, much like Opeth. Whether I like it as much as Mabool? That remains to be seen. I think the thing with this album is you have to appreciate it as a full album, not just individual tracks, which is what I thought about Mabool too. The flow is very good I thought.

I didn't know Steve Wilson was involved in this. I hope he doesn't make me dislike Orphaned Land's material the way he made me dislike Opeth's.

What'd you think of the previous album, El Norra Alila?
