I got a copy of The Wretched Spawn today (no beeps). After one listen, it is very awesome. Thumbs up from me!
I didn't even bother listening to the tracks with beeps, but there are three 'complete' songs on the promo. I have to say, I'm very impressed. This is the first CC I've ever heard, and it is radically different to what I expected. It is much tighter than I thought, the guitar solos (at least on Cyanide Assassin) are excellent, and they use tempo changes galore. There is nothing worse than an album full of songs, all at the same tempo throughout - which is the absolute crudfest that melodic death metal has become for example.

Anyway, for some reason, from what I heard about them, I thought CC would be 'sloppy', more grungey/fuzzy, and perhaps a bit more like Mortician overall. This shit on the other hand is fucking good. It punishes.

Heh, if this was pleasantly surprising to you, you're gonna be mad you've missed out on the Corpse for so long. :)

Should I still start at Vile or The Bleeding then?

That depends on whose vocals you like better. Personally, I prefer George Fisher, being a fan of Monstrosity and all. So, I would say Vile. But as a fan, Cannibal is an important part of death metal history. Tomb Of The Mutilated is just sick! The whole discography is cool in my book, and I can't wait to get the boxset for Christmas!

Vile is their best in my opinion, but Bloodthirst would make just as good of a starting point. Want a CD-R of either one?

The intro to Orgasm Through Torture from Vile needs to go in my Top 10 Riffs...

Another top riff...

Okay then, Vile is on its way, in a custom handmade CD case and everything (read: folded up notebook paper o_O ).

Oh, I thought the so let it be "written" pun was your way of saying "burn away!" :loco:

Good choice by the way. :D

I get so sick of Cannibal Corpse being shit on all of the time, this thread is a refreshing change. The new album is still great by the way, I'm loving it.

Vile is a good starting point. There really isn't a CC album that I don't recommend.

Even Gallery of Suicide? I always disliked that one, except for Sentenced to Burn, which is up there with their best.

I'm thinking about picking up the Cannibal Corpse box set. I don't have any of their actual cds for some reason and I think thats probably a good place to start. I've heard a couple songs including their "No Remorse" cover which was pretty sweet.

No Remorse cover?? Give mp3!

I guess it was part of the initial pressing of "Gore Obsessed" as a hidden track. When I was visiting my cousin this summer he felt the need to download all of Metallica's albums and when he downloaded "Kill Em' All" he ended up getting the "No Remorse" cover. I had no idea who it was (until a month or two ago) but thought it ruled so I put it on a cd and brought it home with me. Now how I could get that to you I dunno because of my inexperience with computers but one of these other guys probably has an mp3 of it.

Right, I believe that was the one that Metallica threatened to sue Metal Blade over if they didn't remove it. Fucking greedy swine.

Cannibal Corpse should have never done it, that cover sucks. I love the original, and the idea was cool, but the execution sounds like they were fulfilling a contractual agreement instead of enjoying it.

No matter how much the cover sucked or why it was done, the pathetic band that still somehow has the nerve to call themselves Metallica deserve to die. Horribly.
